For those who doubt the extent of the reputational damage inflicted on CPD by progressive lawmakers, let this video serve as Exhibit A. After CPD arrest a man for suspicion of stealing a car, the parent screams and calls CPD "slave catchers." CPD as "slave catchers" originated with progressive activists and lawmakers. This is an utterly false and harmful characterization of CPD. Until lawmakers affirm CPD legitimacy in the public square, and demand residents obey lawful commands from Police, CPD will continue to face the sort of hostility seen here.

What Cherone doesn't tell you is CPD has achieved preliminary compliance with 97 percent of the consent decree's requirements. Cherone doesn't mention the preliminary 97 percent because she wants viewers to think CPD is lagging behind the law, resistant to change and continues to harass minority residents.

No, CPD is not harassing anyone. Considering the high volume of crime on the CTA — stabbings are common — it is certain CPD was able to reasonably articulate a reason for the search. Transit riders should be applauding CPD for their effort to make the CTA safer. Unfortunately, this is Mayor Brandon Johnson's Chicago, where progressive lawmakers routinely trash CPD, so riders immediately became confrontational with Police.

Yet, Johnson continues to insist public safety is his “number on priority.”

Speaking with a passion and urgency in favor of the snap curfew, O'Shea noted when Police Districts are stripped of officers to tend to teen takeovers or protests downtown, residents across the city are deprived of the CPD protection they deserve. O'Shea made an important point about shortages to CPD personnel and expressed his concern with residents' safety. For this, Mr. O'Shea deserves a round of applause.
