A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly trying to shoot a young woman with an illegal pistol near a college campus in #Mallapura, near #Nelamangala on the outskirts of #Bengaluru. The woman escaped unhurt as the weapon misfired twice, enabling her to alert the police. The incident occurred around 9am, triggering panic in the area and renewing concerns over the easy availability of illegal firearms along the city outskirts. The accused, #ShubhamKumar, a #Bihar native working as a bike taxi rider and residing in Nelamangala, was in a relationship with the victim, #Aparna, a nursing student from #Sikkim living in #Ejipura, police said. The two had been dating for over a year after meeting on Instagram. Investigators said Shubham had begun suspecting Aparna of being in touch with another man, leading to frequent arguments and emotional distress. Police said the accused illegally procured a pistol loaded with four rounds and asked Aparna to meet him in Nelamangala on the pretext of a discussion. When she arrived in a taxi, he allegedly attempted to fire at her, but the pistol misfired twice. Aparna then dialled 112 to alert the police, who, with help from local residents, apprehended Shubham at the spot and seized the weapon. Investigators added that the accused had allegedly planned to kill the woman and then take his own life, but the attempt failed due to the misfire. A case has been registered at Nelamangala Rural police station under relevant sections of BNS and the Arms Act. Police are also probing how illegal firearms are entering the city and whether an organised network is operating on the outskirts.

A 26-year-old nurse was allegedly attacked with acid and repeatedly assaulted with a machete by her estranged husband in full public view in Bengaluru on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 9.15 am near a private clinic when the woman stepped out for breakfast. She is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital and her condition is reported to be critical. The victim, identified as Madhumita, who hails from Kolkata in West Bengal, had been working as a nurse at the clinic for around one-and-a-half years. According to police, her husband Venkatesh had arrived on a motorcycle and was waiting for her near the clinic. Police said the couple, who got married in Madurai in 2024, had been living separately for around a year following a family dispute and were not in contact with each other. According to the police, Venkatesh allegedly chased Madhumita after she came out of the clinic. She ran towards the cellar parking area in an attempt to escape, but the accused allegedly caught hold of her and threw acid on her. He then grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly attacked her with a machete. The assault unfolded in full public view, triggering panic among onlookers. Hearing her screams, several people rushed to help and raised an alarm. However, the accused allegedly brandished the machete at those who attempted to intervene, preventing them from approaching the victim. Some members of the public reportedly tried to rescue Madhumita by pelting stones at the accused, but were unable to overpower him. As the situation turned violent, a traffic police sub-inspector, who was managing traffic at a nearby signal, rushed to the spot. Police said the officer intervened while locals were pelting stones at the accused. The accused allegedly then turned on the officer and attacked him with the machete. The PSI reportedly managed to knock the weapon out of the accused's hand using a stick before securing him. The accused was subsequently handed over to the police and taken into custody. Police have obtained videos of the assault recorded by the public. Venkatesh is currently being questioned as investigators seek to establish the exact motive behind the attack.

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at a lodge in Doddaballapura, reportedly using an ID card tag. The accused allegedly fled the lodge with the victim’s mobile phone. The deceased has been identified as Vidya, a resident of Nagaragere village in Gauribidanur taluk. The accused, Anand, is a resident of Mudugere village. Vidya and Anand had married for love four years ago and were living in a rented house in Gandhinagar, Doddaballapura. According to police, the couple had been facing marital disputes for the past six months. About two months ago, Vidya left her husband and moved into a PG accommodation in Bengaluru. Anand subsequently filed a missing-person complaint at the Doddaballapura Women’s Police Station. Police later traced Vidya and, around 20 days ago, counselled the couple and sent her back with Anand, according to reports. On Wednesday night, Anand allegedly took Vidya to SGS Lodge, located above Samruddhi Hotel in Doddaballapura. CCTV footage reportedly shows the couple entering their room together at around 11:48 p.m. At around 1 a.m., Anand allegedly locked the room and left the lodge alone. Since the room had been locked and the key had been used, lodge staff reportedly assumed that the couple’s belongings were still inside and did not immediately suspect foul play. After 24 hours, when lodge staff attempted to contact Anand, his phone was reportedly switched off. Police were informed and arrived at the lodge that night. During an inspection of the room, they found Vidya dead. She had allegedly been strangled with an ID card tag. A case has been registered at Doddaballapura Town Police Station. Police are searching for Anand, who is currently absconding, and are investigating the circumstances and motive behind the alleged murder.

A tense and alarming incident unfolded in Pune’s Viman Nagar area after a dispute broke out between two hotel owners. Following the argument, one of the hotel operators allegedly summoned a gang of around 10 to 15 habitual offenders who stormed the rival hotel premises, verbally abused the owner, and issued death threats. The sudden confrontation created panic and fear among local residents and business owners. The complainant immediately dialed the police emergency helpline 112 seeking assistance. According to the complaint, gang members including alleged ringleader Ashfaq Sayyed, Kafeel Tasu, Shiva Patil, and several others aggressively confronted the complainant and his mother, hurled obscene abuses, and threatened to kill them. Ashfaq Sayyed is reportedly a known repeat offender with multiple serious criminal cases already registered against him in police records. Even after police arrived at the scene, the group allegedly continued arguing and misbehaving with officers. Amid the chaos and crowd, Ashfaq Sayyed reportedly managed to escape from the spot. Despite three days having passed since the incident, police have not yet succeeded in apprehending him. The incident has triggered fear and insecurity among local citizens and businessmen in the area. Speaking to the media, the complainant stated: “My life is under threat from this criminal gang. The police should arrest the accused at the earliest and take strict action against them.” In another shocking revelation, the complainant alleged that around 15 days earlier, the same accused had allegedly attempted to strangulate a customer at their hotel. Although the concerned customer reportedly informed the police about that incident as well, no action was allegedly taken against the hotel. This has raised serious questions from the complainant, who is now asking whether the police are indirectly protecting the hotel operator and the criminals involved.
