China sent a new satellite group into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province on Tuesday. The satellite group was launched at 19:59 (Beijing Time) aboard a modified Long March-6 carrier rocket and successfully entered its preset orbit. The satellites will make up the Spacesail Constellation, a Chinese low-orbit satellite network intended for commercial use. This launch marked the 642nd flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series, according to the launch center.

Our Relativity Space team proved more in this first launch than most companies (and even countries) ever have in their maiden attempt: ✅ first methane fueled rocket in the West to reach space, well over the 100km Karman Line (only other is China) ✅ first nearly entirely 3D printed rocket to fly and prove 3D printing is viable by passing Max-Q, the max stress on the rocket ✅ first methane orbital-class rocket to successfully complete stage 1 flight, main engine cutoff, and second stage separation in the West (only other is China) ✅ first-ever second stage ignition attempt during the vacuum of flight for a methane fueled orbital rocket in the West, collected first-ever flight data ✅ continuing data reviews, and will bring learnings to our future rocket including Terran R ✅ one really ecstatic launch viewing experience - here, as close as one can get to the launch pad. The University of Waterloo Rocketry Team launched Polaris, a student-built liquid bi-propellant rocket, to an incredible altitude of 63,497 feet - about 19.35 km above Earth. The flight broke the previous world record of 56,590 feet, making Polaris the highest-flying amateur liquid rocket ever launched. The 17-foot rocket was designed and built by students and successfully recovered after its record-breaking flight.

I bet long term, SpaceX is going to be the default choice for overseas cargo deliveries, especially when Starship is proven to work. “Once you achieve full reusability, then it’s simply the cost of access to orbit is just the cost of propellant, because now you can reuse all aspects of the vehicle. The propellant we use for the Starship is liquid oxygen and liquid methane, which is the cheapest propellant you could possibly get. …So the cost of propellant for Starship will be less than the cost of jet aviation fuel, which means that you should be able to actually send cargo to space for less than the cost of cargo of an airplane going on a transoceanic trip.”
