The Fordow Enrichment Facility – Iran’s nuclear facility at Fordow is located approximately 100 kilometers southwest of Tehran. It was built under a mountain near the city of Qom and is protected by anti-aircraft batteries. The facility appears to have been designed to withstand aerial attacks. According to satellite imagery, its construction began between 2002 and 2004, but Iran only reported its existence to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2009, after Western intelligence agencies, led by the United States, exposed the facility. Fordow is a relatively small facility, capable of housing only about 3,000 centrifuges. This led analysts to believe that the site could be used to divert and rapidly enrich low-grade uranium (from 60% to 90% — the level required for nuclear weapons). Under the nuclear deal form 2015 (JCPOA), Iran agreed to halt enrichment at Fordow and convert the facility into a research center. However, after the U.S. withdrew from the agreement, Iran resumed its enrichment activities there. Recent IAEA reports indicate that Iran has increased its production of uranium enriched to 60% at the Fordow facility, which currently houses approximately 2,700 centrifuges. Reports suggest that Iran could convert its current stockpile of 60%-enriched uranium into roughly 233 kilograms of weapons-grade uranium within three weeks — enough for nine nuclear bombs. Fordow is a central focus in Israel’s efforts to disrupt and dismantle Iran’s nuclear program. However, the United States is the only country that possesses the type of bomb necessary to successfully strike the underground Fordow nuclear site from the air.

‼️ This is a very dangerous situation. Nothing like this has ever happened before. This nuclear power plant is the largest in Europe. Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which has been under Russian occupation since March 2022, has been disconnected from the power supply for more than a week. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stressed that this situation is unstable in terms of nuclear safety, since "in case of a complete blackout with no off-site power and no EDGs operating, the nuclear fuel could melt if power could not be restored in time." According to Ukraine’s state nuclear operator Energoatom, this is already the tenth blackout at the occupied Zaporizhzhia plant. At present, the plant is running on diesel generators. "Russia is doing absolutely nothing to fix the situation or to allow Ukrainian specialists to restore external power to the plant, which under normal conditions should operate without interruption. Russia is deliberately creating the threat of radiation incidents, taking advantage, unfortunately, of the weak position of the IAEA and its Director General Rafael Grossi, as well as the distraction of global attention. To resolve the situation, weak and half-measures will not work. What is needed is strong action and corresponding pressure on Russia to protect lives," President Zelenskyy said. Moreover, yesterday’s targeted Russian strike on one of Ukraine’s power substations in Slavutych caused a blackout lasting more than three hours at facilities of the former Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. "This includes, in particular, the New Safe Confinement that protects the environment from the remains of the plant’s fourth reactor after the 1986 explosion, as well as radioactive debris and dust. It also includes the spent nuclear fuel storage facility, which holds 80% of all the spent fuel accumulated during the plant’s operation - a total of more than 3,250 tons of spent fuel assemblies. The Russians could not have been unaware that a strike on facilities in Slavutych would have such consequences for Chernobyl. This was a deliberate attack, in which Russia used more than 20 drones. Some of them were shot down, but the strike was deliberately organized in a wave of drones to make defending the site more difficult," the President of Ukraine said.

"Practical launches of ballistic and cruise missiles will be practiced during the joint drills of the Russian and Belarusian nuclear forces," Putin announced. Rattle-rattle-rattle of a nuclear saber... Putin and Lukashenko conducted a joint nuclear forces training session via video link. During the session, Putin stated that "the nuclear triad must ensure the maintenance of parity and the balance of power on a global level." Putin's statements: ▪️Russia does not intend to get dragged into an arms race; Russian nuclear triad will remain at the level of necessary sufficiency. ▪️Systematic and consistent training exercises are essential for strengthening the security of the Russia and Belarus, as well as protecting against threats from all directions. ▪️The "Sarmat" missile is capable of overcoming all current and future air defense systems. ▪️Russia will continue to equip its Strategic Missile Forces with new missile systems. ▪️The use of nuclear weapons is an exceptional measure to ensure the country's security. Lukashenko's statements: Belarus does not intend to fight anyone unless it is provoked. Otherwise, the republic "will not stand on ceremony." ▪️Belarus and Russia are not threatening anyone, but they stand ready to defend their shared fatherland from Brest to Vladivostok. ▪️Belarus will be drawn into the war in only one scenario - if aggression is committed against its territory. The country has no intention of getting involved in the war in Ukraine, as there is no need for it, either civil or military. ▪️Lukashenko is ready to meet with Zelenskyy "at any location - in Ukraine or Belarus" to "discuss the issues in Belarusian-Ukrainian relations."
