Because of Russian shelling, the plant has been cut off from power, disconnected from the electrical grid, and is being supplied with electricity by diesel generators. This is extraordinary. The generators and the plant were not designed for this, have never operated in this mode for long, and we already have information that one generator has failed. It is Russian shelling that prevents repair of the power lines to the plant and the restoration of basic safety. This is a threat to everyone – no terrorist in the world has ever dared to do to a nuclear plant what Russia is doing. And it is right that the world does not stay silent.

It was Russia’s actions in Crimea that showed many predators around the world how it can be so easy to seize part of another state. And this is not just a piece of land – it is a piece of life. We have to remember what Crimea is. We must act so that Russia knows – we remember, and we will not forgive, and we are fighting for international law and basic human justice to prevail. Do not let war become part of the norm. Russia very much wants to make war the “new normal.” And this is exactly what we must resist – not to allow killings and Russian occupation to become something the world can simply turn a blind eye to. The occupier must be held accountable for the occupation and for all the crimes of this war – a war in which only Russia is guilty.

Ukraine is a country with a rich history and culture. Kyiv existed hundreds of years before the creation of many cities in the world, and even countries. Our ancestors lived on their land for centuries.. and the fact that we were under Russian occupation for some time, and they artificially tried to destroy us and our culture, and Russify our country.. and also organized the genocide of Ukrainians (as one of the most striking examples is the Holodomor of 1932-33) with the purpose of destruction, does not make Russians the owners of our land, and does not make Ukrainians Russian, and Ukraine a part of Russia. . Many countries were under occupation... the borders of many countries were once different. But now, based on this, we will divide everything again? Well, then not a single country in the world will remain within its former borders. Even the United States, which was once a colony of other countries, or part of whose territory was once part of another country. But now it is a separate, great and independent country. And we respect it, and its people. And we want the same respect for ourselves.

For more than two years, Russian occupiers have been controlling the largest nuclear power plant in Europe—the Zaporizhzhia NPP. And invariably, the Russian presence poses a fundamental threat to the radiation safety of our country, all of Europe, and the world. Russia is blackmailing the world with the threat of a catastrophe at the ZNPP. It is using the plant’s territory as a launching ground for attacks on Nikopol and other nearby communities, and it is storing military equipment and ammunition on the territory of the ZNPP. Only the return of the plant to Ukrainian control will ensure full compliance with all safety standards and normalize the situation around the ZNPP. For decades, Ukraine has maintained the highest level of safety at its nuclear facilities and will continue to do so. However, this requires an end to Russia’s criminal presence at the ZNPP.

Today, Russian forces attempted to expand their operations against Ukraine in the Kharkiv region. We know the size of the occupiers' forces and their intentions. Our warriors, artillery, and drones are fighting back against the occupier. I thank each soldier, sergeant, and officer who is defending our positions. We are strengthening Kharkiv directions. Along the state border and on the frontlines, we will continue to destroy the occupiers and thwart Russia's offensive intentions. It is critical that partners support our warriors and Ukrainian resilience with timely deliveries. Truly timely ones. A package that truly helps is the actual delivery of weapons to Ukraine, rather than just the announcement of a package. I thank every leader who sees the situation this way. We also continue to actively prepare for the Global Peace Summit. Our goal is to ensure that every leader can demonstrate effectiveness for the sake of the common good. I am confident we will succeed. And we must acknowledge that this is precisely what Russia is attempting to undermine right now. The more meaningful the summit, the closer peace will be. Putin obviously does not want it. It is also clear that he will continue to try to thwart our efforts, both through offensive action and by undermining our agreements with other leaders. We must not allow this to happen and we will make every effort in this regard.

We see the challenges that exist now: the Iranian regime has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz – one of the main routes for supplying oil and gas to the global market. This is a major source of instability. No one in the world can yet say how long all of this will last, but it is important that the protection of life starts working effectively as soon as possible. Stability is important for us as well. Those now seeking Ukraine’s help must continue to assist our own defense – first and foremost, our air defense. Last year we already proposed a drone agreement to the United States. This is the right way forward: to partner with us in the production and use of drones, and everyone now sees that there is no alternative to this approach. Ukraine has the greatest experience in the world in countering attack drones, and without our experience it will be very difficult for the Gulf region, the entire Middle East, and partners in Europe and America to build strong protection.

Today, I held a meeting with our foreign affairs team regarding our special foreign policy opportunities. These opportunities are available to our state thanks to many Ukrainians and millions of citizens from other countries who believe in Ukraine and support us. These opportunities allow us to keep Ukraine in the global spotlight, increase support for our state and our people, and effectively advocate for Ukrainian needs. The primary need is to end the war as quickly and justly as possible. Ukrainians have endured and achieved so much in this war because we have united not only within our state but also kept the world united for the right cause – for Ukraine and for everything that makes our world humane and capable of defeating evil. Our unity must continue to be preserved – everyone here in Ukraine, everyone in Europe, and the world who values Ukraine and life. This August, we are preparing news about greater consolidation of our people and everyone worldwide who helps us.
