🇨🇳 🚆I took the high speed train in China today We booked business class tickets, which was relatively cheap, just $90 for 3.5 hours You could get 2nd class tickets for just $20 by the way Also this train is the fastest train in the world now, faster than Japan's Shinkansen that I took a week ago Here is the business class lounge, it's a special entrance at the station with its own security, and free coffee and snacks, it does have a bit of a 1970 North Korea aesthetic which you honestly don't see here a lot, everything is modern. I think because the train company is state owned? But then the station itself does look hypermodern, any Chinese know why? Of course the video starts with a cough 😊👌 Today was a bit of an ordeal, we went to the station before, we didn't get tickets because there's so many "official" restrictions on luggage and we already lost so many things (like powerbanks), and gf was understandably scared to lose more stuff So we thought we'd first try enter the station and pass security and if we got through fine then by tickets on Trip app But then the Didi driver drove us to the dodgiest entrance of the station called West Squate (not the most popular one) where it was a crowd of ppl trying to enter, we were stopped and couldn't enter and the old man started yelling Chinese at us A group of Thai behind us were also yelled to leave by him So then we and the Thai were outside We then discovered it was because you need a ticket to enter the station in the first place, which again is pretty unique to China In Japan, you just walk in, buy a ticket 20min before and board, not in China Anyway a lot of lessons learnt again today, and that's why traveling in China is hard but also fun, but once you get it it's actually easier than abroad, like there's no train tickets at all, not even digital! Look at this incredible clip of Carl Jung talking about God. It literally gives me chills every time I watch it. One of the most prolific and famous psychotherapists and psychoanalysts of all time, Jung coined much of the language we use to describe our thoughts and psychology today. So why is it that someone so steeped in the sciences ends up finding himself not only saying that he believes in God as an act of conscious faith, but that he KNOWS God? If you, like me, were raised through your youth in the 2010s-2015 era of 'new-atheism', it became extremely zeitgeist to deny the existence of God. We saw a world where science was directly in opposition to anything spiritual, metaphysical, supernatural at all. But what I think is extremely compelling is how many incredibly intelligent individuals who clearly wrestled with the material and fought rigorously with these ideas ended up finding themselves at some sort of level acknowledging the existence of the supernatural, of the divine. Anyone who experiences life richly, who asks the deep questions and continues to seek earnestly, will find the answers that they're seeking for. My encouragement is to explore these questions now, when you are young, when you have the time for these answers and philosophies to completely change the trajectory of your life. How would you live if you thought that you were chosen? How would you live if you thought that you were placed here for a reason? Famously, they say that there are no atheists on deathbeds. But what I hope to see in the world is no atheists anywhere. We are surrounded by abundant evidence of something incredibly magical going on behind the scenes. Left home at 7:15 AM to catch the 9:00 AM Vande Bharat from Banihal. At 7:30 AM we were stopped by CRPF personnel and told, You can’t go ahead. I requested them, Sir, we have a train to catch. The reply was That’s none of our concern. We turned back. Tried another route. Stopped again. Then our local cab driver started navigating through narrow village roads of Verinag because every normal route was blocked. Only because he knew the area, we somehow reached Lower Munda around 8:20 AM. Even near Jawahar Tunnel we were stopped again before finally being allowed through after explaining our situation. A journey that normally takes 10–15 minutes turned into an exhausting 1.5-hour ordeal. We somehow reached Banihal station at 8:50 AM. Had it not been for the driver’s presence of mind, we would have missed the train. Now I want answers. Are these roads ours too or only for a select few? Don’t we pay taxes? Don’t we live here? Don’t we deserve dignity and respect? Does an ordinary citizen’s time have no value? If we had missed the train, who would have taken responsibility? Why should common people suffer? Why are citizens treated like an inconvenience in their own homeland? Why is there no proper coordination so that emergency travel and public transport are not disrupted? This isn’t just about one train. It’s about the daily humiliation faced by ordinary people. Development is not just building roads, it is allowing citizens to use them with dignity. Kudos to the cab driver, who refused to give up and did everything possible to get us there on time. Without him we would have been stranded. About a year ago, we showed the Netflix hit series- The Queen’s Gambit to the kids we train at our Chess academy in Makoko. They were deeply inspired by the lead character Beth Harmon, an orphan girl who went on to become world champion. It was a story most of them could relate to. The girls came to me afterwards and asked if they could make their own Chess movie as a re-enactment of the Queen’s gambit, I told them we didn’t have all of the resources and equipment to bring it to life, but they reminded me that it was possible to do great things from a small place and they were gonna use all the resources in their own community to make it a reality. One of our tutors volunteered to record them. We left the entire creative direction to the kids and they created this masterpiece in two days. I’m in absolute awe of their courage and brilliance and I think it’s important to share this with the world. Talent is universal, but opportunity isn’t. Here’s to bridging the opportunity gap for more girls by empowering them with education and helping them believe that their dreams are valid.
