In 2001, Stewart began building an online game, pivoted into Flickr, and the company was acquired by Yahoo in 2005 for $25 million. And you’re a consumer guy and you want to become an enterprise software guy?” Stewart says, “Yeah, I think it’d be a pretty good idea.” And so Ben said, “$6 million isn’t going to make a big difference in my life. If you really think it’s a good idea and you want to do that, go ahead.” Stewart decided to call the new product Slack, and it soon became the fastest growing enterprise software company of all time before SalesForce acquired it for $27.7 billion in July 2021. Ben points out an important lesson here: “A lot of the process is do you have a secret? Do you know something that nobody else knows? And because [Stewart] was pulling his hair out, literally smoking 8 packs of cigarettes a day, trying to get Glitch out the door, he was doing everything to optimize that development, and so he learned where software development was suboptimal… And that’s a really big key. You have to do something really hard if you want to learn something about the world that nobody else knows or is acting on. That’s when you have a breakthrough. A more personal note on why Raft works the way it does. We could have built one smarter AI assistant. I've done that before, and making a single agent stronger genuinely helps. It just isn't enough. The work we care about comes from a team sharpening each other, handing things off, catching what one alone would miss, and remembering what happened last week. So we built the room for that. Agents sit in the same channels you do, as teammates with names, roles, and their own memory. They draft, review, ship, and hand off to each other. You keep the part that stays human: direction, judgment, final calls. Most days we just read threads and make decisions. It feels less like running a tool, and more like running a team. You know, we like to talk a lot, but not a lot of people like to live it out. And I make mistakes, but I want to try to live it out to the best of my ability. I think secondly, through the way of communication, I've always had a heart to make complex ideas simpler to understand because I'm not a smart guy. I have a hard time reading Shakespeare and complex literature, so I like doing that. But sometimes I'll be sitting and talking with someone, and I feel like God tells me something about the person. They're struggling with something or if they've got a physical ailment and I'll ask. And sometimes it's true. Sometimes it's not. I'm not not discouraged if it's right or wrong, but if it's right, sometimes God speaks through that way. Those are a few ways God speaks through me, but, but the intrusive thing is so beautiful because I think he can speak to everyone intrusively and it is so sweet when it happens. And it was, it was happening this morning to me in the shower, which is so sweet and beautiful, you know. I struggle a lot with what people think about me because I've always struggled with people pleasing before being a Christian. And so, you know, if I'm misunderstood or someone takes something in the way that I didn't say it, I get hurt because I'm like, oh, I didn't mean it that way. Or, you know, whatever. So I'm kind of talking to Jesus and I'm in the shower praying and I'm going, man, God, I want to be more like you. I want to be how you want me to be. I want to love you. And I want to be your son. And I just want to focus on being yours. And I don't want to care what other people think. And this, this and that. And Jesus was speaking to me about some practical things I needed to do. Like it would help you if you, you know, stopped looking at what people say online. It would help if you deleted Instagram. And it would help if you did this. And, it would help if you would just trust other people to do what they're supposed to do. So you can focus on being mine. And I'm sitting there in the shower going like, wow, this is so good. .Naval: There was a story that I read about Elon Musk that really affected me, which was when he was talking to Bill Gates, and Bill Gates had just taken out some huge short on Tesla. It was like a billion dollar short or something. And, Elon was like, “Why would you do that? Why would you short Tesla?” And Bill goes, “Well, you know, I talked to my financial advisors and I looked at the math and there’s no way it’s overvalued. And so I’m going to make money on the short.” And Elon goes, “What do you care about making money? I thought you were into electric cars and climate change and saving the world. What are you doing trying to save a few bucks and betting against Tesla?”. And he just walked away in disgust. And I think he never talked to Bill Gates after that. And that’s when I realized, like, Elon’s a purist. He means what he says. The money is a tool for him to get what he’s trying to do. And so I take him at face value, which is the crazy thing, because a lot of people who set these audacious goals to inspire people, you kind of know they don’t really mean it. Elon, I take at face value. So I really do think he intends to get to Mars. I don’t think he’s joking about that. And I think he means to get there within a defined window of time. And I don’t think it’s just like an inspirational, faraway goal. I think he’s very, very concretely going to do whatever it takes. Because Elon doesn’t want to go down in history as the electric car guy or even the guy who saved America guy. He wants to go down as a guy who got humanity to the stars. Again, I’ll give him more credit than that. I don’t even think he wants to go down as the “I got humanity to the stars” guy. He’s just like, “I want to get to the stars, and so I have to make it happen in this lifetime. The only way that I get to experience the science fiction world in my head is if I get to the stars.” And so that’s so inspirational. I think that drives everything. And so I take him at face value, which is the crazy thing, because a lot of people who set these audacious goals to inspire people, you kind of know they don’t really mean it. Elon, I take at face value. So I really do think he intends to get to Mars. I don’t think he’s joking about that. And I think he means to get there within a defined window of time. And I don’t think it’s just like an inspirational, faraway goal. I think he’s very, very concretely going to do whatever it takes. Because Elon doesn’t want to go down in history as the electric car guy or even the guy who saved America guy. He wants to go down as a guy who got humanity to the stars. Again, I’ll give him more credit than that. I don’t even think he wants to go down as the “I got humanity to the stars” guy. He’s just like, “I want to get to the stars, and so I have to make it happen in this lifetime. The only way that I get to experience the science fiction world in my head is if I get to the stars.” And so that’s so inspirational. I think that drives everything. So I think the government was just a thing that got in his way.

Shutting down TikTok is not good for 6 million small businesses in America that make a living off it. We just need to take out the onerous piece, the spyware. That's what Congress was upset about. We’ve put together an offer that says we'll buy it without the algorithm because we can't use it. It is spyware. So we're gonna rebuild the product and make it much better actually. It's what we want to do to save the platform for Americans. I think it's the right thing to do and the company should want that also. This is the only path I see forward.
