Bengaluru's Biggest Monsoon Tradition: Flooded Roads and Empty Promises This is Bengaluru. Looking at these visuals, one would think it is a swimming pool, not one of the city's major roads. The irony is that despite endless claims of development, smart infrastructure, and rapid urban growth, the same roads turn into waterlogged stretches every single time it rains. Just look at the water level. Vehicles are struggling to move, commuters are stranded, and residents are forced to wade through flooded roads. This is not an isolated incident or a one-time problem. It has become a recurring story across Bengaluru whenever there is moderate or heavy rainfall. The bigger question is: where are taxpayers' hard-earned money and infrastructure funds going? Citizens pay road tax, property tax, and numerous other charges with the expectation of basic civic amenities. Yet year after year, the city continues to witness the same drainage failures, poor road planning, and lack of accountability.Authorities issue promises after every monsoon, conduct inspections, and announce new projects, but the ground reality remains unchanged. If Bengaluru is truly India's technology capital, why are its residents still battling flooded roads every rainy season? Development cannot be measured by announcements and advertisements alone it must be reflected in the quality of infrastructure that citizens use every day.Until authorities fix the root causes of poor drainage, unplanned construction, and inadequate road infrastructure, Bengaluru's roads will continue to resemble swimming pools rather than the modern urban network that residents deserve. Karnataka State Police S. This is one of the worst stretches in Bengaluru, and unfortunately, this is not the first time it has been waterlogged. Year after year, every time heavy rain hits the city, this underpass turns into a lake, causing severe inconvenience to commuters, damaging vehicles, and putting lives at risk. Despite repeated incidents and countless complaints from citizens, nothing seems to have changed. The most frustrating part is that this problem is entirely predictable. Authorities know exactly what happens here during every monsoon, yet there appears to be no permanent solution or effective drainage system in place. Instead, residents and daily commuters are forced to suffer the same ordeal repeatedly while promises of infrastructure improvements remain on paper. Citizens pay taxes expecting better roads, proper stormwater management, and safe public infrastructure. However, situations like this raise serious questions about planning, accountability, and maintenance. How many more years will people have to endure the same issue before meaningful action is taken? A city aspiring to be a global technology hub cannot afford to have critical roads and underpasses flooded after every spell of rain. Public issues deserve attention, and citizens deserve better than the same recurring problem year after year. Karnataka State Police S. Brand Bengaluru: Where Dreams Drive, But Boats Float Faster Massive traffic chaos has erupted on the Electronic City flyover and the adjoining main roads, all thanks to the now ritualistic waterlogging near Silk Board. With Hosur Road completely closed due to flooding, the city's infrastructure has once again collapsed like a house of cards at the first sign of rain. Commuters, helpless and frustrated, have started walking on the flyover because clearly, walking through chaos is faster than waiting in it. This isn’t just traffic this is Bengaluru’s monsoon edition of survival of the fittest. Welcome to Brand Bengaluru, where tech dreams come to die in puddles, and BBMP’s contribution is limited to photo ops and press notes. Bengaluru, the so-called city of dreams for thousands, is crumbling not because of nature but because of years of unchecked greed, corruption, and absolute apathy. Our roads flood, our drains choke, and our officials? They remain blissfully unaware or shamelessly indifferent. What has Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS truly done, other than expertly mismanage public funds and turn a global tech hub into a soggy, unlivable disaster zone every monsoon? "Brand Bengaluru" is now nothing more than a cruel joke, sold to the world while its citizens swim through the mess. And let’s not forget us the voters. Shame on us for electing the same people again and again, expecting change while receiving nothing but potholes, waterlogged roads, and empty promises. Maybe next time we’ll vote for candidates who carry umbrellas, not just manifestos. At this rate, Bengaluru won’t need smart city plans it’ll need snorkels and rescue teams #bangalorerains #bangalorerains #silkboard #bengaluru #bangalore Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS Tushar Giri Nath, IAS Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್‌ BengaluruCityPolice ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸಂಚಾರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ BengaluruTrafficPolice CP Bengaluru ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಆಯುಕ್ತ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು alok kumar DGP KARNATAKA S. Earlier today, I led an extensive inspection tour of critical drainage infrastructure and flood mitigation projects across Lekki, Agungi, Ikota and Ajiran, and what we uncovered demands immediate and decisive action. The persistent flooding in Agungi despite the completion of major drainage infrastructure over two years ago has a clear cause. At Ajiran, we discovered that a land owning family deliberately blocked the outfall channel that was specifically designed to discharge stormwater by gravity into the Lagos Lagoon. I have directed that the outlet be reopened immediately in the overriding public interest. Let me state clearly: no individual or family has the right to obstruct natural watercourses or public drainage infrastructure regardless of their land titles. We are not taking anyone's land. We are simply restoring the channel to allow water to flow freely and protect thousands of residents from avoidable flooding. At Megamond Estate in Ikota, we found that developers had illegally reclaimed part of the Ikota River and commenced construction without obtaining the necessary environmental and drainage approvals. Enforcement and abatement notices had been served previously but were ignored. From tomorrow morning, all illegal structures erected on reclaimed drainage alignments without approval in that estate will be removed. This action sends a clear message that Lagos will not tolerate encroachment on drainage channels or public infrastructure. I also reiterate that any development involving wetlands or water related projects must obtain an Environmental Impact Assessment and Wetland Clearance from the Ministry before any reclamation or construction begins. We do not care whose ox is gored. It is unfair to law abiding residents and unacceptable because it compromises public safety. I urge every Lagosian to remain vigilant. The illegal activities we uncovered today came to our attention through whistleblowers. We investigated, verified, and acted. See something, say something - constructively. We are fully committed to a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.

Public Safety Ignored: Child Falls Into Uncovered Drain in Govindapura In a disturbing incident that once again exposes civic negligence in Bengaluru, a young school-going child fell into an open stormwater drain in Govindapura, Sarvajna Nagar. The incident occurred right in front of the school premises, where construction work was underway without even the most basic safety precautions. Shockingly, the stormwater drain had been left uncovered, with no barricades, warning signs, or protective measures in place. Due to the unsafe conditions on the road, the child was forced to walk along the edge to reach school and accidentally fell into the open drain where the slab had been left exposed. Such blatant carelessness highlights the utter disregard for public safety by the authorities responsible for overseeing the work. Thankfully, the child was rescued immediately by alert passersby and escaped without any injuries. However, this narrow escape cannot be brushed aside as mere luck. The incident comes less than a week after another tragic case in which a child lost his life due to negligence by the Water Board, raising serious and alarming concerns about the continued failure of civic agencies, including the GBA, to ensure safe infrastructure.Residents of the area have expressed anger and frustration, stating that slow, poorly planned, and unsafe construction work has turned daily movement into a life-threatening task. Parents fear for their children’s safety, while pedestrians are left to navigate dangerous roads filled with open drains, debris, and incomplete works. This incident is yet another reminder that unchecked infrastructure projects and lack of accountability are putting innocent lives at risk. Authorities must be held responsible for their negligence before more lives are endangered. Safety cannot be treated as optional, and urgent action is needed to ensure proper barricading, clear signage, and strict monitoring of civic works to prevent such incidents from recurring #bangalore #bengaluru #drainage #gba #kid Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS Greater Bengaluru Authority Karnataka State Police S. Only in Bengaluru Unicycle Ride Through Traffic Leaves Commuters Stunned A classic “Peak Bengaluru” moment was witnessed once again on the city’s busy roads, where a man was seen riding a unicycle in traffic, seemingly to beat the notorious Bengaluru congestion. While the act may appear impressive and even entertaining to some, it is important to highlight that this is not a safe practice on public roads.Riding a unicycle in heavy traffic requires professional-level skill and extreme balance, and even then, it carries significant risks. Bengaluru roads are known for sudden potholes, uneven surfaces, and unpredictable vehicle movement. A minor loss of balance or an unexpected obstacle could lead to serious accidents, not only endangering the rider but also posing a risk to other motorists and pedestrians.Public roads are designed for standard vehicles, not for stunt-like activities, no matter how skilled the individual may be. Such acts, when performed in traffic, can distract drivers and create unsafe situations. While creativity and skill are admirable, road safety must always take priority to prevent avoidable mishaps and ensure the safety of everyone sharing the road. #bangalore #bengaluru #bangaloretraffic #orr ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್‌ BengaluruCityPolice ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸಂಚಾರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ BengaluruTrafficPolice CP Bengaluru ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಆಯುಕ್ತ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು Joint CP, Traffic, Bengaluru alok kumar DGP KARNATAKA ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ Karnataka State Police S. Serving Bengaluru Beyond Duty location - Hebbal Flyover starting ramp towards city market airport Road Today, at around 3:00 PM, heavy rainfall lashed Bengaluru, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion at several locations across the city. While I was at home, I immediately checked Google Maps to identify the worst-affected areas with heavy traffic and waterlogging. Without waiting for any instruction, I stepped out to assist wherever help was needed. As a responsible citizen, I firmly believe that traffic management during emergencies is not the responsibility of the Traffic Police alone. During heavy rain and waterlogging, no single department can handle the situation by itself. It is our collective responsibility as citizens to stand together, support one another, and extend a helping hand in the interest of public safety. Every small effort made for society contributes to saving valuable time, reducing traffic congestion, and, in many cases, protecting lives. Throwing garbage carelessly on roads, footpaths, and public spaces and then blaming bbmpcommissioner and Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS is not a solution. Civic responsibility begins with the people. Cleanliness is not only the duty of the administration; it is a basic civic sense that every citizen must practice. Dumping waste “here and there” reflects negligence, indiscipline, and a complete lack of respect for the city we live in. At the same time, civic sense cannot grow in isolation. It is also a genuine request and responsibility of BBMP and GBA to provide proper infrastructure for waste disposal. If garbage bins are placed on every street, at regular and accessible points, people will be far more likely to use them instead of littering the roads. Public convenience plays a critical role in shaping public behavior. So the real question is not one-sided blame. Is it the fault of citizens who lack discipline and basic civic sense? Or is it the fault of the administration for failing to provide essential facilities and systems? The truth is, both share responsibility. Citizens must stop using the absence of bins as an excuse to litter. Carrying waste home or disposing of it properly is a small but necessary act of responsibility. Clean cities are built by mindful citizens, not by slogans and complaints alone. However, authorities like BBMP and Greater Bengaluru Authority must also step up by ensuring adequate bins on every road, regular waste collection, awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement of rules. Only when civic sense from the people and efficient administration from authorities come together can we expect clean streets, healthier surroundings, and a city we can truly be proud of.Cleanliness is not optional. It is a shared duty, and blaming alone will never clean our roads. Karnataka State Police S. Earlier today my team and I returned to the Ajiran and Agungi axis in Eti-Osa to inspect the ongoing removal of contraventions and drainage restoration works, and I can report that our decisive intervention is already yielding visible results. Within 48 to 72 hours of reopening the Ajiran channel to the Lagoon and the Ikota River, we have seen a remarkable improvement in stormwater discharge, bringing real relief to residents of Agungi, Ajiran Village, and neighbouring communities. We are not done yet. This exercise continues until the entire drainage alignment is fully restored and reconnected to the natural water bodies. I also met with community leaders and residents to explain both the immediate and long term measures we are deploying. We are collaborating with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to deliver a sustainable engineering solution for this flood prone corridor, and I have directed the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang to commence remedial maintenance on channels requiring urgent intervention. At Orange Island on Freedom Way, I reaffirmed that the government remains resolute against illegal dredging and land reclamation. Reclamation activities there were halted last year because the developers failed to obtain the mandatory Environmental Impact Assessment and drainage clearance. That area is a major discharge outlet for Lekki Phase I into the Lagoon and any obstruction would create significant environmental challenges. We also inspected downstream discharge points serving Itedo, Kushenla and Freedom Way and identified additional corrective measures for immediate implementation. I commend the Local Government authorities for improving their operational capacity. Flood management is a shared duty. Every new road must have properly designed collector drains connected to primary canals, and communities must take ownership of completed infrastructure. On enforcement, we continue to arrest and prosecute environmental offenders. We will soon deploy between 140 and 150 additional waste compactors to strengthen LAWMA's fleet and support PSP operators. Before the end of this year, our Material Recovery Facilities and Transfer Loading Stations will begin diverting over 4,000 tonnes of waste daily from landfills as we accelerate the transition from a linear waste system to a circular economy. This is the work of building a flood resilient #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.

Heavy rains received on Saturday have left many houses surrounded by water at the Ehenye residential area in Oshakati, Oshana Region. The pools of water in the yards are making it difficult for residents to move to and from their homes, while those with sedans have to look for parking elsewhere because their cars could be submerged. Residents are furious, and they are blaming the Oshakati Town Council for allocating them plots in a flood-prone area that they say was not properly planned. They say the Ehenye residences are located in the middle of an oshana, and professional surveying was supposed to be undertaken before the formalisation and construction of houses. The residents argue that Ehenye lacks a proper drainage system and has insufficient stormwater channels, leading to water stagnation in yards. Some residents allege that despite their repeated letters to the Oshakati Town Council to address the flooding of houses at Ehenye, their appeal went unanswered. People are now worried that if the downpour continues in the coming days, the water will enter their houses and cause damage to their properties. In response, Oshakati Town Council's Public Relations Officer, Katarina Kamari, said the council is aware of the situation, which has unfortunately affected the whole town, not only Ehenye. She said despite the council's efforts to allocate funds for the construction of stormwater channels around the town and elevate roads, budgetary constraints remain a challenge. Bengaluru’s Billion-Dollar Image, But Not a Rupee for Its Roads? This is the so-called "Brand Bengaluru" a city that claims to be the Silicon Valley of India, yet its roads tell a very different and disgraceful story. The condition of Vibgyor High School Road is absolutely appalling, filled with massive potholes and deep craters, some of which are perpetually filled with water. It becomes nearly impossible for commuters, especially school children and parents, to travel during the rainy season. The road is not just an inconvenience it's a serious safety hazard. One cannot help but wonder: What has happened to the public money collected through taxes? Why is the Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS turning a blind eye to such basic infrastructure issues? Year after year, roads are dug up, patched shoddily, and left to deteriorate again. Is this negligence or sheer incompetence? This road is not an isolated case; it reflects the overall collapse of urban governance in Bengaluru. While crores are spent on branding campaigns, smart city projects, and beautification drives, the most essential requirement motorable roads remains ignored. How can we talk about "Brand Bengaluru" when people can't even walk or drive safely in their own neighbourhoods? The silence and inaction of the BBMP and local government is shameful. Are the lives and daily struggles of citizens not a priority? Do authorities only wake up when elections come around? It's time for accountability. Tax-paying citizens deserve much better than crater-ridden roads that resemble war zones. Enough is enough. The people of Bengaluru are tired of empty promises and hollow slogans. The real face of "Brand Bengaluru" is not the skyline of glass towers it's this broken road that thousands of citizens are forced to endure every single day. Karnataka State Police ChristinMathewPhilip Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike

HII MVUA NI SERIOUS PIGIA GEOFFREY MOSIRIA! Emergency contact:1508. BE CAREFUL NAIROBIANS! Heavy rains are currently being experienced across Nairobi, and I urge all city residents to exercise extreme caution during this period. Motorists are advised to avoid overspeeding, especially now that many roads have become flooded and slippery. Please drive carefully to prevent accidents. Residents living near rivers and riparian areas are strongly advised to move at least 30 meters from both sides of the river, or up to 60 meters in areas where flooding may be more intense, to avoid danger in the event of river overflow. Members of the public should also avoid walking or crossing through fast-moving floodwaters, as strong currents can easily sweep someone away when least expected. The current flooding challenges are largely linked to the fact that Nairobi’s drainage infrastructure was designed many years ago, at a time when the city had a much smaller population and less urban development. Today, large sections of the city are covered with concrete and other impermeable surfaces, which significantly reduces the natural absorption of rainwater into the soil. As a result, large volumes of stormwater are forced into drainage systems that were not designed to handle such capacity, leading to flooding in several parts of the city. Through the existing collaboration framework between the National Government and the County Government, plans are underway to comprehensively upgrade and expand the city’s stormwater drainage infrastructure. The objective is to significantly increase its capacity and resilience so that it can effectively serve Nairobi’s growing population and support the city’s needs for the next 100 years plus. As part of these interventions, all illegal structures constructed on top of drainage systems, along drainage corridors, and along main roads obstructing stormwater flow will be removed without negotiation. Additionally, individuals occupying riparian reserves within 30 meters on both sides of rivers will be relocated unconditionally. These measures are necessary because public safety remains the government’s highest priority, and we cannot wait until lives are lost before taking preventive action. Residents are therefore urged to cooperate with the relevant authorities as we implement these measures aimed at protecting lives, preventing flooding, safeguarding infrastructure, and building a more resilient, well-planned, and sustainable Nairobi for current and future generations.

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda strongly came down on his own government machinery and the contractor during an inspection of the ongoing Metro Phase 2B project from Nagawara to Bagalur Cross on Sunday, openly expressing his frustration over prolonged delays, poor execution, and the hardships being imposed on the public.During the inspection, the minister pulled up Metro officials and contractors for incomplete pillars, blocked roads, and footpaths filled with construction debris, which have severely affected traffic flow and pedestrian movement. He ordered the immediate clearance of waste, removal of unnecessary roadblocks, and directed officials to speed up construction work to reduce inconvenience to commuters and residents.Byre Gowda expressed shock that Metro pillars at some locations have remained incomplete for nearly two years. Questioning the lack of accountability and planning, he asked officials why a stretch of road had been shut for over a year with little visible progress. “You shut this stretch a year ago. What have you been doing all this time? Does it take one year just to complete a pile cap? Now you are saying in two months you will do magic. Where is the pillar? I can’t even see it,” he remarked sharply, taking a direct dig at the contractor. He also criticised the irrational blocking of roads, pointing out that construction activity at one location was causing road closures and traffic chaos elsewhere. “If work is happening at Hebbal, then block Hebbal. Why are you closing roads here and troubling people unnecessarily?” he asked, highlighting the lack of coordination and sensitivity towards public suffering. The minister further flagged the pathetic condition of footpaths and service roads, which were clogged with debris and construction waste, making movement extremely difficult and unsafe for pedestrians and motorists. He directed officials to clear the debris immediately and restore access for the public. Acting on his instructions, officials cleared the waste on the spot in his presence. Raising serious concerns over worsening traffic congestion in North Bengaluru, Byre Gowda pointed out that several roads had been blocked without justification, leading to daily traffic snarls and long delays for commuters. He instructed officials to remove avoidable barricades without delay and ensure smoother vehicular movement.Criticising the authorities for testing public patience, the minister stressed that prolonged and poorly managed construction work was unfairly burdening citizens who have been enduring inconvenience for years. He warned officials that delays, lack of planning, and casual execution would not be tolerated any longer, and called for strict accountability and better coordination to ensure Metro works are completed at the earliest. He подчеркed that development cannot come at the cost of endless suffering for the public, and authorities must respect the patience and time of Bengalureans #bangalore #bengaluru #bagalur #yelahanka Krishna Byre Gowda ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್‌ BengaluruCityPolice ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸಂಚಾರ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ BengaluruTrafficPolice alok kumar DGP KARNATAKA ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ Karnataka State Police S. Sunroof Shenanigans: Public Road Becomes Private Bedroom for Bengaluru Couple What is truly happening to people these days? In yet another bizarre and concerning incident, a young couple was caught on camera engaging in highly inappropriate behavior through the sunroof of a moving car on Bengaluru’s busy Trinity Road. The footage, which has now gone viral, shows the duo openly kissing and displaying excessive public affection all while the vehicle was in motion, drawing the attention and concern of fellow commuters and pedestrians alike. This reckless act took place under the jurisdiction of the Halasuru Traffic Police, raising not only questions about moral decency in public spaces but also serious concerns about road safety. It is both shocking and disheartening that such behavior is now being flaunted without any fear of consequences, as if public roads have become private lounges for attention-seeking stunts. Not only is this a blatant violation of traffic norms and decency, but it also poses a grave danger to the safety of everyone on the road. Engaging in such irresponsible acts inside a moving vehicle especially through a sunroof is a disaster waiting to happen. One wrong turn, a sudden brake, or a distracted driver could result in fatal consequences. Moreover, this kind of public display is not just disrespectful, it sets a very poor example, especially for younger viewers and children who may witness such acts in public. Freedom and modernity must never come at the cost of safety, decency, and mutual respect in a civil society. It’s high time that authorities take strict action against such reckless behavior and enforce traffic and decency laws more rigorously. Another day, another flood. Welcome back to Brand Bengaluru where urban planning is optional and accountability is extinct. it's HSR Layout 7th Sector one of the so-called “posh” and “well-planned” areas of Bengaluru that has turned into a full-blown lake. Thanks to the unshakable negligence of the Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS, even the most developed neighborhoods are now sinking under their own real estate hype. The drainage system? Completely choked. BBMP? Fast asleep, as if nothing is wrong. It’s almost as if the administration is in a parallel universe where Bengaluru is functioning just fine. Meanwhile, on ground zero, roads have vanished under murky water, vehicles are submerged, and entire stretches look like disaster zones. Severe waterlogging in HSR Layout has brought life to a standstill. Residents are struggling to leave their homes. Office-goers are stranded. Kids can’t go to school. And on top of it all, there's the rising threat of waterborne diseases a gift that comes free with Tushar Giri Nath, IAS version of "rain-ready" infrastructure. The irony? This is the same city that flaunts its “global tech hub” tag. The same city being sold to the world as a destination for innovation and growth. But beneath the glossy billboards and fancy branding, Bengaluru is drowning literally and metaphorically. Every monsoon is a cruel reminder of how fragile this city is. Every rain exposes the ugly truth: BBMP has utterly failed its citizens. Year after year, the story doesn’t change only the headlines do.
