In SH2R, something completely different might have happened to Maria before meeting James, than in BfaW. The smashed bottle of White Chrism, with the liquid spilled out, is evidence of a different story that happened off-screen. In OG SH2, Maria brought the White Chrism bottle inside the mansion, to help Ernest. In SH2R's normal NG, the White Chrism is smashed and spilled out in the garden, and James can inspect it, implying it's important. Then in NG+ another bottle appears, and there's an uneasiness in Maria's voice as she recognizes it. Which implies she might have smashed the bottle herself in the remake instead of helping Ernest, for some reason. Something might have went wrong when she returned to Baldwin Mansion with the White Chrism. Maria's comments on the Baldwin Mansion also don't seem right. BfaW ends just before James and Maria meet, but Maria talks about the mansion as if it's a distant bad memory that she doesn't fully remember.
