17 NOV 2025 - UK ASYLUM POLICY STATEMENT My question to the Home Secretary after her statement on the proposed new & inhumane asylum policy for the UK. Increasing 'Defence' spending & joining the US, Israel & other allies in illegal invasions, wars & genocide, the UK increases the number of asylum seekers and refugees coming to our country. The UK must uphold international law & increase efforts in peacebuilding & humanitarian aid to tackle the root causes of increasing asylum & refugee arrivals. Asylum seekers, refugees & immigrants are not the reason millions of people are on low paying jobs or can't get a GP or dentist appointment or why our public services are crumbling or why the NHS is on life support. It's because of tax breaks for the rich & corporations, tax avoidance by tech giants & multinationals, & a self-imposed policy of austerity by the Tories and continued by Labour coupled with incompetence & waste.

When 94% of Eritrean and 99% of Sudanese asylum seekers are ultimately granted refugee status, the government should establish safe and legal routes for these countries, or at the very least, fast-track their asylum applications. Student refugee visas and community-support/business-support schemes cannot be the only safe routes for refugees. We should not be offering asylum protection based on qualifications, but on the level of need for sanctuary. A person fleeing war is not more deserving of safety because they can “contribute” more.

This isn't about politics, this is about people — and the people I serve got screwed as a result of this federal budget bill. 310K Pennsylvanians will lose their Medicaid, 140K will lose food assistance, and 25 rural hospitals are now under threat because of this bill. The cuts we are about to see are a direct result of how your federal representatives voted, and we cannot fix it for them.

In Dallas and San Antonio, Judges are dismissing asylum cases and outside the court room ICE agents are waiting and arresting illegals. An attorney for the asylum seekers said that arresting people at the courthouse used to be rare and has people (illegals) on edge. A senior DHS spokesperson said “Secretary Noem is reversing Biden's catch and release policy that allowed millions of unvetted illegal aliens to be let loose on American streets." On edge huh?
