I laughed out loud at this Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada confirms dozens of people who traveled to Canada for the FIFA World Cup claimed asylum while there These people paid thousands for a World Cup vacation and are now claiming asylum…. We live in clown world I ran the numbers and to attend a set of FIFA games in a city, it would cost an international with airfare, hotels and food around $8,000-$15,000 But they’re claiming asylum…..

When 94% of Eritrean and 99% of Sudanese asylum seekers are ultimately granted refugee status, the government should establish safe and legal routes for these countries, or at the very least, fast-track their asylum applications. Student refugee visas and community-support/business-support schemes cannot be the only safe routes for refugees. We should not be offering asylum protection based on qualifications, but on the level of need for sanctuary. A person fleeing war is not more deserving of safety because they can “contribute” more.

A new merged registration interview aims to speed up asylum decisions by combining stages of the application process into a single interview for many new claimants. The Government says the changes will reduce delays and tackle the asylum backlog. But I’m now seeing a number of immigration lawyers like Fraz Ahmed appearing on social media criticising the changes and warning their client base. This isn't about politics, this is about people — and the people I serve got screwed as a result of this federal budget bill. 310K Pennsylvanians will lose their Medicaid, 140K will lose food assistance, and 25 rural hospitals are now under threat because of this bill. The cuts we are about to see are a direct result of how your federal representatives voted, and we cannot fix it for them.
