One of the laws that they made, Section 230, shields internet providers' platforms from lawsuits. It gives them legal liability from lawsuits on the basis of slander, obscenity, and things that are on their platforms that they didn't create. The distinction allows the platforms to let other people post whatever they want without getting sued for it. They cannot be held liable. These big companies cannot be held liable for slander, hate speech, or anything really on their platforms.
