🚨🚨ATTENTION!🚨🚨 I am an IT administrator with 30 years industry experience. I am NO Microsoft fanboy by any means! This video is EXTREMELY misleading! OneDrive is simply an App that does sync files up to the Microsoft Servers. While you setup your account, it will display a screen similar to the below (screen 1) where you toggle on the 3 primary folders that users store information. If you store information in other folders, outside of the 3 listed, they are not sync'ed online! Furthermore, when you complete the setup of an account, you get a tutorial screen the provides guidance on what these little icons mean. You can right-click a folder and select the "Always keep on this device" if you want to download the files. This boils down to "user education" and how to use OneDrive effectively. It is not some big conspiracy to get users. It is just, no offense, you run into this problem because YOU ARE NOT READING the screens and you should openly admit that you are computer illiterate. It's okay, we all were there once upon a time. I understand how my harsh words can hurt your feelings, but I have been working in IT for a long time and we have to be honest with ourselves... We are the PEBCAK in the end! 😂

There are very simple fixes and solutions to this problem: 1.) Don't use Windows. 2.) Ensure you backup everything to a standalone hard drive daily or weekly. 3.) Don't use Windows.

To mitigate, users should unlink OneDrive before updates via Settings > Accounts > Windows Backup, or use local Microsoft accounts instead of online ones to avoid automatic enrollment; disabling Files On-Demand ensures files remain downloadable locally.

I just spent $600 on an HP laptop that came with Microsoft Office free for 1year. I paid extra for one terabyte drive. But nothing gets stored on my laptop it all goes into the cloud, the OneDrive cloud. I either need to throw the laptop away or hire an IT guy to come over and get as much Microsoft contoll off as I can. I don’t want my entire computer stored on a cloud.

@vernia22 Tiny 11 is the answer, a fully debloated version of Windows 11, updates will never run OneDrive because it's not installed and can only be installed manually. It runs on old hardware with as little as 2gb of ram.

I recently found out that Microsoft on a fresh install of Windows 11 to new computers automatically sets the SSD to be encrypted. You need a key, which is supplied (and you had best not lose that!), to decrypt the drive. What I suspect is happening there is that this is a move to (eventually) arrange things such that Microsoft is effectively the owner of your drive and computer and all the files on it. Eventually you will have no control at all over your computer and files — that will all belong to Microsoft by default.

This has always been obvious and is the status column. Open File Explorer, right-click on Documents, and select "Always keep on this device." Better yet, set up your own backup to a high-speed *external* drive (so you can grab it on the way out the door in a fire) and use software that does file syncing.

This is not how it happens. I am an IT tech and have setup many on OneDrive. You do have to ask to move your data to OneDrive. OneDrive also warns you that deleted files are deleted after 30-days. It helps to read the messages on the screen and get help if needed.

Don't panic. I you don't see OneDrive installed in Windows Startup App then it is not running. If it is running simly turn it off and remove using Add Remove Programs in Settings.

I keep telling people to back important documents up via hard copy. A secondary, independent device is OK but has to be accessed via a computer and can be compromised. Sorry, paper copy is best

If it generated something that needs to be copied & pasted somewhere, you can ask it to put it in your clipboard directly 2. I just asked it to take screenshots of the HTML slide templates, and compile the images into a video using FFmpeg, showing them at 1 second interval 4. Manipulate files on your computer (e.g. organizing them into folders, renaming them, etc)

Ford remotely shut off this brand-new Bronco on a busy expressway over ONE late payment. 😱 Guy’s out here with a new Bronco that has only 3,000 miles on it, and Ford just killed the engine while he’s in 60 mph traffic.
