I don’t hear anybody talking about all of the jobs needed for repair and maintenance of robots, in addition to the economic parallels with the automobile industry. Every piece of hardware in this world needs maintenance and repair in addition to everything else that will emerge with millions of robots operating in this world.

He’s well known for his accurate predictions. Reliability - first they need to understand what’s going on in recurrent latent reasoning (Bill Gates couldn’t explain that if he tried). In addition the real world is where fleet robotics etc must work. It is an unforgiving place.

Not true. You cannot simplify every job to just numbers. Creative/lateral thinking, new ideas, out of the box approaches will always be needed in a world that's regurgitating the old information. Also, increased secrecy is needed in proprietary material.

This I actually believe. Not the whole doomer thing but AI is getting so good that some disruption is inevitable. How that will look who knows. One thing is true though our whole world economy is based on people working and spending so I don't see things falling apart that much.

“I read this book The Engines That Move Markets a while back and figured out that when technology changes , it’s easy to know who are the losers and difficult to know who are the winners. A few years ago I realised that IT stocks will be the big losers of the AI revolution and exited entirely” says Samir Arora Infosys is now down 40% in last 6 months while TCS is down 30% over 6 months. Samir Arora completely exited IT stocks a few years ago when he sensed the disruption AI would cause. We spoke about it on the show.

I asked her what's changed in how that group is thinking in the last 6 months: "I don't think every researcher doing frontier work at these labs feels like they're essential to the machine. With recursive self-improvement of AI research models that can improve the models themselves, we are a 1-2 years away from some sort of exponential intelligence. That belief is new within the last 12 months for a lot of researchers. There is some sense of the major labs are so compute-intensive and so large from a headcount perspective now that the sense of contribution, of "I can move the needle." If OpenAI has 200 people, there's not that many researchers. The question of how do we get there is really up to every single person. Now if the question is, well, I need $750 billion of compute spend, I think people feel less ownership of the outcome. I definitely think there's a large contingent of researchers who would feel that one of two things is now true. What I do doesn't matter anyway because the model is gonna do it. Or, the only thing that matters is compute scale. And both of those are somewhat disempowering."

If it is obvious to everyone that entry level white collar jobs (programmers, financial services, etc) are going away, why are we still importing H-1B visa migrants? 80% of H-1B visas go to "entry/junior" level white collar jobs.
