Fabric dye, talcum powder & industrial colours found in SPICES meant for your kitchen. In a major crackdown, Hyderabad Police’s H-FAST and GHMC Food Safety teams raided 13 spice trading and processing units, seizing over 25 tonnes of allegedly adulterated spices. Police say the units were using: • Fabric dye (cloth dye) • Industrial-grade permanent colours • Synthetic food colours • Talcum powder (shining powder) • Rice bran oil Low-quality mustard was mixed with fabric dye, talcum powder and oil to improve its colour, shine and weight. AMC’s Food Department conducted an inspection at the St. Xavier’s Loyola School Campus canteen, near Vijay Cross Road, Naranpura, under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The inspection found that the canteen was operating without an FSSAI licence/registration. Non-compliance with prescribed food hygiene requirements was also observed, including absence of caps, aprons and gloves for food handlers, unclean conditions in the freezer, mould growth on vegetables and use of food items beyond their expiry date. In view of these food safety and hygiene violations, the canteen was sealed.
