Black Mass is not an easy watch, but Johnny Depp’s performance is remarkable. He disappears into Whitey Bulger so completely that you almost forget who you are watching. The makeup deserves plenty of credit, but it is the cold stillness in his performance that really stays with you.

This story stinks to high hell. There should be a follow-up. The most hated snitch by both sides of the law, ever, is sitting in prison. The government says “we’re moving him to a different prison for security reasons” … fine. Two (?) days after he settles into his new digs, he’s found dead after having his eyes gouged out and being beaten to death with what, a padlock in a sock? Nice work, “security reasons”
