This elderly couple is struggling with the cold weather in Gaza, and lack of support. Both the elderly and their daughter can’t walk and are wheelchair users. The Sameer Project contacted the family to check what they need and on December 17th, we visited them in Khan Younis and provided 2 mattresses, 2 blankets and a large tarp. The total cost with 9% commission was $172. Blankets and tarps are in huge demand now with the strong cold and constant rain. It is predicted to rain again on Saturday and we would like to do mass distributions of blankets and tarps with your support. Donate to the Give Warmth to Gaza Campaign today. The next rainstorm is hitting Gaza tomorrow, on Monday, and it will last three days! Please support us in providing as much protection as possible: Over the last week, our team has been setting up tents in different parts of the Gaza Strip for homeless families and those whose tents got destroyed. The need is HUGE and this is why the current situation is not sustainable. Borders néed to open and we need to demand that loudly every single day. The children in Gaza Camp in Deir Al Balah were barefoot, some wearing summer clothes, and all were cold. This camp gets minimal support and none of the families had anything to keep them warm for winter. Our The Sameer Project team got to work after taking the sizes of all the children at the camp, organizating a distribution of warm winter jackets, ensuring there was one for each child in need. We provided 103 jackets, each one heavy, water proof and lined, to keep them warm during the winter storms. Each one was approximately $23 and cost a total 2,290 after 9% commission. We can source blankets inside of Gaza. They are available, but they are not free aid - they have been allowed in on commercial trucks by the occupation to be sold in markets, however, families cannot afford them. With your help, The Sameer Project can purchase them and distribute them for free to entire camps and areas that are particularly vulnerable and in need. We select camps to serve that get no other support. We select the areas that are the most disenfranchised, the poorest, the most in need. We give to all these families in one area so no one is left out, no one is “selected” over the other based on who they can reach out to on the internet for advocacy on their behalf. Instead, we support all of them to ensure equity and fair access to our aid. We are these families’ advocates. Here are 60 blankets going to the Al-Mutahabeen Camp in Khan Younis. Gaza is DROWNING! Help here: The sewage systems are not functioning. The streets and the tents are flooding with no solution for the situation. Palestinians in Gaza have been warning over and over about the winter and the rain. Yet nothing changed, the winter is here and Palestinians yet again are suffering. International pressure and direct action must not stop! We can’t stop rain but at the Sameer Project we can provide tarps that help prevent tents from leaking and blankets for warmth. The Sameer Project camps host around 117 families and one of them is the Batoul Camp that has around 27 vulnerable families. On June 15th, we distributed diapers and formula to those who need it for $217, including 11% commission. This included 6 packs of baby diapers and 5 adult diapers and 5 formula. Help here: The Batoul Camp will soon be closed and the families will join our other camps. This is due to lack of funds as donations dropped a lot recently. Even simple things like providing diapers and formula are not consistent due to the lack of support. Caring for 117 families with patients in a genocide is expensive and your contribution is needed. Summer is here and it’s really hot in Gaza reaching 30 degrees Celsius / 86 Fahrenheit. Now imagine that being a sick patient in a tent. Help now: That’s the case for many of the families in The Sameer Project camps and many cases get seizures due to the heat. We have multiple solar panels in our camps but they can’t provide fans for everyone, so our medical team assessed those most in need. The Sameer Project needs your support in purchasing fans for the families and money to fix some fans we already have. A fan approximately costs $525 for a new one (if found) and $280 for a used one. That’s aside from the prices for keeping the fans running. Yesterday our team visited a camp called Atshana (translates to thirsty) and is located right next to the Sowerky cemetery in Deir El Balah. The camp is in bad condition and don’t get aid or support, donate: The Sameer Project team distributed 147 packages with 1.5 kilos of eggplants in each bag. The cost for each bag is $29.25 so the whole distribution cost around $4,300. One meal of eggplants alone for a family costs around $30 and these vegetables are sourced from farms running under big risks. These prices don’t include cooking oil, sauces or spices. Schools have turned into shelters for the displaced in Gaza and even those are often bombed, donate: Not a single place in Gaza is safe and there’s no such thing as a safe zone. 2,540 meals of rice were distributed by the Sameer Project on August 6th feeding around 7,620 people. Total cost was $14,345 with 11% commission. 600 meals were given to the school shelter in Nuseirat and surrounding camps and more meals were given to camps in Deir El Balah. The civil defense team gets their 40 daily rice meals as well. A famous chicken sandwich in Gaza named “Tailandi” is something we regularly make in The Sameer Project kitchen. On February 7th, Translating Falasteen (@translatingpa ) x The Sameer Project team distributed 675 of those sandwiches to Falasteen Shelter Center, Rimal. Help: The total cost with 11% commission was $1,261. So each sandwich costs around $1.85. Chicken and goods are coming in through the border but less than a quarter of the needed amount. Despite the suffocating siege and difficulties, The Sameer Project will continue to provide food daily with your support. 200 vegetable packages were distributed in the Yarmouk Camp in Khan Younis, donate: Each package had 1.5 kilos of eggplants and 1 kilo of molokhye and cost $43 per bag with 10% commission. Total was $8,600. Vegetables are grown in Gaza and sourced from farmers in bulk. Unfortunately prices are extremely high and the people in Gaza can’t afford them.
