Pakistani Christian Convicted of Blasphemy Found Dead in Karachi Jail. Qamar David, a Pakistani #Christian convicted of blasphemy in 2010, was found dead in his Karachi prison cell on March 15, 2011. Authorities claimed he died of a heart attack, but Christian leaders and human rights activists strongly suspected foul play and called for an independent investigation—none was ever conducted. Qamar had been falsely accused by Muslim business rivals in 2006 of sending derogatory text messages about the Prophet Muhammad, leading to his conviction under Sections 295A and 295C of Pakistan’s Penal Code. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and endured constant threats, abuse, and beatings both in court and in prison. His death followed a pattern seen in other blasphemy cases, such as the death of Naseem Bibi in 2003, also labeled “heart failure” despite evidence of prior threats and violence.
