object-specific compositing raises an interesting boundary case: an effect that extends beyond the object silhouette. testing a glow behind a foreground occluder could help show which operations need scene depth and which can stay local to the object.

Yeah that's the main thing tackled right now and probably soon discussed in the thread. I think once that is figured out the implementation can happen a lot faster since the groundwork for implementation has been laid quite well
