Boston Dynamics has unveiled its next-gen humanoid robot hand. • 13 degrees of freedom (up from 7) • 4 fingers instead of 5 (eliminated pinky to reduce complexity, weight, power use, cost, and potential failure points) • 100lb+ combined payload • New 4-DOF opposable thumb with much more human-like... show more

While it is cool, I think V3 will put it to shame.

I think so too

4 fingers.. so in other words, not a Humanoid..

The evolution of dexterous hands is too rapid; the era of embodied intelligence has arrived. In my following list, you and @haloliggins12 discuss cutting-edge technology most thoroughly; I love both of you.

The robot hand can manipulate objects in-hand. Humanity remains stuck opening jars with a towel

Great update as always. This robot hand brings a lot of value with its smart design.

Ya but can it had out popcorn?

Solid progress, I want to see Optimus V3!

BTW! Every product team should study the pinky decision. Cutting the feature everyone expects is harder than adding six new ones.

Word of the day: Proprioception is your body's unconscious ability to sense its own position, movement, and force in space without relying on your vision.

Dropping the pinky is the smartest call on this list. Most teams would have kept it just because humans have five fingers.

Dropping the pinky to gain simplicity, strength, and reliability is such an interesting tradeoff. Been following you and @mikekennedy39 for a while—you both keep the coolest AI and robotics stuff on my radar.

Trash

RIP 💀

This is a major leap for humanoid robotics. More degrees of freedom, tactile sensing, and human-like manipulation could make Atlas dramatically more capable in real-world tasks.
