#HudsonValley: flooding, wind damage likely tonight, may cause school delays/closings on Wednesday 😵‍💫 Before the rain, 1-3 inches of wet snow in Sullivan and western Ulster County between noon - 4:00 pm may cause early dismissals or lead to the cancellation of after-school activities. Elsewhere across the mid-Hudson Valley, any wet snow that falls this afternoon is unlikely to stick to paved surfaces. After 4:00 pm, the main precipitation type will be rain, and it’s expected to become heavy in the evening. The forecast for Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning is a tumultuous one: - Periods of heavy rain and maybe even a thunderstorm between 6:00 pm - 3:00 am, with rainfall amounts ranging from 2-4 inches (a month’s worth or more) - Rapid snow melt, especially when the temperature reaches the low-to-mid 50s after midnight - Strong-to-damaging wind gusts of 40-60 mph between 6:00 pm - 3:00 am Possible impacts include: - Ponding of water and flooding on streets, particularly in urban and low-lying areas - Flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams, some of which may rise out of their banks - Scattered-to-widespread power outages and downed tree branches; the combination of sodden grounds and strong winds may cause some trees to topple If you live in a flood prone location, expect flooding tonight — take extra steps to protect your property. Winds/gusts are expected to be as high as 55mph tomorrow and as a south-westerly 💪🏻 so it’s gonna get hairy 💨 I’ll be live from the Paddock to kick-off, then with the winds continuing through past the switchover, we’ll possibly change locations to the northern runway. But recently in high winds, Heathrow Tower/Operations have continued-on with Southern Runway arrivals due to the ‘shed effect’ on arrivals into the northern, resulting in more TOGAs. It’s all ‘up in the air’ right now, but one thing’s for sure, we’re in for a bumpy ride 💪🏻 live at 10:00BST 🍿

Forecast Update for Washington, D.C. and metro area. A major shift in the forecast this evening. The tornado watch has been dropped, and the severe weather threat across the D.C. metro is greatly diminished. The long-track tornado and hurricane-force wind concerns we were watching earlier are no longer expected. That’s welcome news. Remember, nobody wants storms capable of damaging homes or taking lives. It will still turn much colder. Overnight lows drop into the 30s for several mornings, so expect a chilly start to the week. Travel is another story. Thousands of flight delays and cancellations are already rippling through the system. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a close call at Boston's Logan Airport Thursday involving a Delta Air Lines flight that was landing and a Cape Air plane that was taking off. Delta Flight 263, with 284 passengers and 11 crew members on board, was originally headed from Paris to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, but was forced to divert to Boston because of weather conditions in the New York area, according to Delta officials. As the Airbus 330-900neo came in for a landing at Logan at about 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time, air traffic control told the flight crew to "go around" to keep a safe distance from a smaller plane that was taking off, according to ATC audio. "Air traffic control instructed Delta Air Lines Flight 263 to perform a go-around at Boston Logan International Airport because Cape Air Flight 548 was cleared to takeoff from an intersecting runway," the FAA said in a statement.
