After completing "Fight Club" (1999), Brad Pitt felt that he had done a movie which he thought was too commercial. He became interested in watching the movie of new filmmakers. He was impressed by "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" (1998). So, Pitt called Guy Ritchie up and said, “Hey, I really like what you’re doin’, and if there’s anything that I could fit in, then let’s talk.” Ritchie said, “Well, there is.” And I said, Great! I’m in!” However, both of them panicked before the filming of "Snatch" (2000) started because of the dialect, which was unintelligible. Pitt worked on the accent and tried to be clear and understood. It wasn't working. Pitt went to Ritchie, the day before the shoot and I said, “Guy, I’m gonna f**k up your movie. You should do it.” [So that Pitt could pick up the accent from the imitation] He replied, “Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no.” Pitt, who was scheduled to be on the set 6 AM the next day was was walking the streets of North London like a maniac. Pitt's friend kept saying to him, “You can’t understand it.” At midnight, that clicked in , and Pitt called and woke up Guy Ritchie and said, Are you okay, if you can’t understand your beautifully written dialogue?” And he said, “Yep.” On his inspiration for the role, he credited Benicio Del Toro. "But also, I’ve gotta give credit to Benicio Del Toro, for his brilliant performance in 'The Usual Suspects' (1995). He was, to me, the first person that I’d seen, that was fearless with being unintelligible."
