A lot of times I don’t agree with these calls… This however is a clear turn to second

Had the umpire reacted normally this play wouldn’t have happened. The catcher read the umps body language and knew he had an out in the bag.

That there is a turn to 2nd. It’s slight. But it’s there.

This is 100% an out. Why would anyone argue that? The movement in the direction of second base is all it takes. Just because he looked and changed his mind, it doesn’t make the move towards second base disappear. Clear cut out.

Correct call by the letter of the law. Pretty questionable in the spirit of the law. He definitely shuffled his feet in an effort to potentially change direction. But more as a natural hustle action than a deliberate change of direction. It's technically the right call.

Always thought it had everything to do with staying inside the baseline/foul line Seems like the correct call to me

Correct call. But I believe the umpire influenced the play by rushing up close to the runner which induced the catcher to make the tag thinking there was a move towards 2nd, because he didn’t actually see the move.

Elly De La Cruz was ruled safe at second even though he ran through the bag. After Don Mattingly and the Phillies argued, the call stood. Technically, the umpires could have said De La Cruz abandoned the bag and called him out, but they elected not to and called him safe. Wild play.

This happened in a game between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets that I’ve never seen before. Pete Crow-Armstrong was on first base. The pitch goes to home and Armstrong is off trying to steal second base. He slides into second and is called safe. New York challenges the call and it is overturned and he is called out. They said he came off the bag. Not strange right? However, it was ball four. Pete is entitled to second base. You can hear the announcers- “it doesn’t matter if he’s tagged. It’s ball four. The base is his.” Craig Counsel the Cubs manager was ejected when he came out to argue. Did the umpires and replay get it right? Have you ever seen such a thing? Isn’t he entitled to the base on a walk?
