Our AI in Design case study featuring Linear is live! A couple things stood out to me right away as we were talking to Karri Saarinen and team about how they use AI in their flow - 1. They go waaay deeper with AI before doing any work that most teams would categorize as “design” though they rightfully see it as a key part of the design process. This means asking AI for info on how a UI came to be, who has worked on it historically, why a certain change might work or not, etc. They really use AI to deeply understand the problem they’re about to tackle. 2. The way they use AI within Linear gives them a crazy advantage. Imagine asking something like: “What designer has touched this feature in the last 5 years and why does it work the way it does?” Good luck getting a good answer for this at most companies. At Linear they have all that context IN Linear… it’s a huge advantage they have and one they utilize to no end. This approach is an incredible way to save unnecessary iterations and ensure you’re building a product that’s moving the company in the right direction. They go waaay deeper with AI before doing any work that most teams would categorize as “design” though they rightfully see it as a key part of the design process. This means asking AI for info on how a UI came to be, who has worked on it historically, why a certain change might work or not, etc. They really use AI to deeply understand the problem they’re about to tackle. 2. The way they use AI within Linear gives them a crazy advantage. Imagine asking something like: “What designer has touched this feature in the last 5 years and why does it work the way it does?” Good luck getting a good answer for this at most companies. At Linear they have all that context IN Linear… it’s a huge advantage they have and one they utilize to no end. This approach is an incredible way to save unnecessary iterations and ensure you’re building a product that’s moving the company in the right direction. This is one of the wildest things I have built with AI so far 😱 Asked Claude Fable 5 to create a fully interactive 3D crime investigation board using Three.js and it did it in ONE Prompt. It took one more prompt to give it a polished UI inspired by a reference design that I created with GPT Image. What surprised me most was not how it looked. It was how it worked. Fable built a complete Verlet rope physics system with 46 particles in every thread. It handled gravity, damping, distance constraints and all other features of file upload, text and everything. The threads/ropes even lift naturally with pinned evidence instead of clipping through it. I never asked it to implement any of that. I only described the experience I wanted. Maybe that's how we should work with AI. Instead of writing long long specs, we should explain what we want as an experience and let AI do its thing. chatgpt images 2.0 has been live for 24h so let's dig in how to use ChatGPT Images 2.0 to create product photos, brand books, UI mockups, and ad creative that actually looks real: 1. GPT Images 2.0 now does 2K resolution, 3:1 aspect ratios, and spits out 8 images per prompt. text rendering is way better across multiple languages. it also has thinking mode where it searches the web before generating. 2. the biggest lesson with images 2.0: you have to be extremely specific. if you give it a lazy prompt you get stock photos. give it camera type, lighting conditions, color palette, and subject details and it cooks. 3. product photography is where it shines. I created a full brand shoot for a skincare line. golden hour lighting, Mediterranean aesthetic, slight imperfections in the subjects. every image looked like a real photo shoot. 4. use it to create visual directions before you make video ads. I prompted 8 directions for the same Shopify ad story. Wes Anderson, Nike, cinematic, Apple shot on iPhone. the cinematic and Nike styles were the strongest. 5. UI mockups work now. give it your app, a feature description, the resolution, and say you want realistic data in every cell. it gave me four clean variations of a leaderboard screen. 6. apparel and merch: generate photorealistic product shots before you print anything. test if people would buy it before you spend money on production. 7. illustrations got a massive upgrade. editorial style, flat vector, limited color palettes. use these to make proposals, one-pagers, and decks look professional. 8. every business has four creative bottlenecks: marketing content, internal docs and decks, explaining things visually, and testing before building. Images 2.0 helps with all four. 9. five things you need in every prompt: context (what is this for), style references (name specific brands or aesthetics), palette (use hex codes), real copy (no lorem ipsum), and aspect ratios so it drops into production without rework. 10. use ChatGPT itself to help you write better prompts. you might not know camera types or lighting terms. ask it to help you build the prompt before you generate. also in this episode: I share a startup idea someone should steal: a learn to draw app with AI feedback on every sketch. $5/month. We're giving away the prompt we used to make this AI UGC video. Getting Sora 2 to output hyper-realistic, consistent footage isn't just about the tool. The prompt has to be structured in a very specific way... character description, cinematography, camera motion, lighting, dialogue, audio, authenticity keywords. Get it wrong and the footage looks off. Get it right and everything downstream becomes easier. We’re sharing the exact Claude template we use as step one of our AI UGC workflow. It takes a basic brief (who the subject is, where they are, what they're saying, what device it should look like, their accent) and structures all of that into the exact format Sora 2 needs automatically. It sits at the start of a full workflow that runs through Sora 2 for the hook, ElevenLabs for voice cloning, ChatGPT for subject consistency, Nano Banana for B-roll generation and Kling for animation. The whole thing is broken down in the latest D2C Diaries episode. But this prompt is the foundation. Without it, the rest of the workflow is harder than it needs to be.
