The car became engulfed in flames that rapidly spread. He was seen “calmly leaving the area by blending in with other citizens who were fleeing the rapidly evolving fire.” The fire continued to spread over the next few hours, driven by winds and heat, forcing thousands to evacuate. Officers were called at 7.24pm on 22 June to reports an Audi A3 convertible had left the road near the junction with Potter Brow Road. Four people were in the car. A 23-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries, while another 23-year-old was treated for minor injuries.
