This in a nutshell is why unearned runs are stupid because Royce Lewis misplaying a ball does not suddenly absolve Joe Ryan of the responsibility to stop 6 runs from scoring.

Certainly an error but I do not believe an official scorer would ever assume a Double Play. Recreating the rest of the inning with that out probably lead to all of those runs being unearned.

Why change? Yes, there are 1B's that get a glove on this or keep it in the infield but that's some wicked spin away from him. Looks like a hit to me.

🚨SCORING RULES ALERT🚨 OK, on Monday in KC, a sure double play was thrown away by Trea Turner, leading to six runs, but they were all earned because you cannot issue a throwing error in attempting to complete a double play. But you CAN have an error on that play if the throw is good but dropped. Well, that happened today between the Toronto Blue Jays and the SFGiants. With the bases loaded a one out, Myles Straw hits I to a potential 643 DP, but the ball went through the glove of Rafael Devers at first. Since this is a missed catch, an assumed out error is issue to Devers (second baseman Luis Arraez gets an assist), and in reconstructing the inning, this should be the third out. That made this run, and the run that followed on the next batter’s single both unearned. This is different that the Philadelphia Phillies play. Had Turner’s throw been accurate, and dropped by Harper, all six of those runs would have been unearned to Cristopher Sánchez. #BlueJays50 #SFGiants #RingTheBell

I have no idea how this is an error. This should be a hit for certain. This was ruled an error on the third baseman on this ball hit by Chicago Cubs Seiya Suzuki. The error was charged to the third baseman of the St. Louis Cardinals Blaze Jordan, but that won’t hold. This has been a hit all year, and Jordan is going to the ground to make this play. #Cubs #StlCards

🚨POTENTIAL APPEAL ALERT🚨 This is from today's Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals game, and the scorer is going with above ordinary effort for this ball hit to Trea Turner. Watching this play, Turner slides and comes up with it and rushes the throw, but the question is, did he have to rush it? Andres Chapparo got down the line in 4.96 seconds, which for him is fast, but overall, is NOT fast as all. Here is what the manual says about a misplay due to rushing. "If a fielder fails to make an otherwise ordinary play because he rushes unnecessarily, the Official Scorer must determine whether the fielder should have realized he did not have to rush. If the Official Scorer believes the fielder should have realized he did not have to rush, the play should be scored an error. If the Official Scorer believes it would have been difficult for the fielder to know how much time he had given the nature of the play, then no error should be charged." I think Turner knows who is running, because he felt comforatable lobbing the ball off his back foot, but he, IMO, had time, so I have this as an error. This led to all four runs in the inning being earned for Luzardo, instead of unearned, so there is ZERO change he isn't appealing this, as a change here would mean nearly half a run off his ERA. #RingTheBell #NATITUDE

Saint Mary’s 6’4 Sophomore Mikey Lewis has been one of the best early mid major prospects in the 2026 NBA Draft this season. Through his first five games Lewis is averaging 21/4/4 while shooting 58% from three on 6 attempts a game. Lewis has also been a major part of Saint Mary’s 5-0 start. Lewis is one of the best shooters and passers in the class who excels with and without the ball. Lewis has shot a very impressive 58% from three so far this season on high usage and he’s shot well off the move, off the dribble or on a spot up look. Lewis also has the ability to create his own look at the rim. As a passer Lewis has great court vision and can find his teammates from all over the court. Still early but Lewis has made a strong case for the NBA Draft with his mix of size, shooting, and passing at his age.

The only error there could be is a missed catch error on Bauers at first, but this sure looks like Bleday has this play beat at first. This is purely a judgment call from the scorer, and I’m sure it is being discussed, but if he thinks Bleday is out, the error is correct, making the four runs in the inning unearned to Jacob Misiorowski. If he thinks the play would have been a single if he held onto it, all four runs are earned. I’m sure Bleday will appeal for a hit, because I thought he was safe regardless. But, this is a complete judgment call by the scorer in Milwaukee. #ATOBTTR #ThisIsMyCrew
