Andy Burnham has pledged that Labour’s next manifesto will include a commitment to change the voting system to proportional representation. I agree with this. First Past the Post is a ridiculous voting system. A system that discards votes and can put a government in power on less than 35% of the vote has no real legitimacy in a serious democracy.

Carol Vorderman celebrates Andy Burnham winning in Makerfield. Her tactical voting coalition Forward Democracy (aka The Movement Forward) advised Greens and Lib Dems to vote for Burnham. The plan is for Burnham to introduce proportional representation to get a progressive alliance of Labour, Greens and Lib Dems.

Our reporter C.J.Mc. Baillie caught up with The Green Party leader Zack Polanski today - and he's very clear, Andy Burnham: if you do become PM, you need to put in proportional representation BEFORE the next general election, not after it.

Sky's Beth Rigby says Andy Burnham has proved Labour can beat Reform - just not under Starmer. Allies of Andy Burnham have told Sky News that he wants to be in Downing Street by September. While Sir Keir Starmer has said he will stand if there is a leadership contest.

Andy Burnham is about to betray the working people he claims to represent. A Reform UK government will always put the British people first and scrap this holiday tax. ✅

MPs from across the House - including Andy Burnham, in a statement just last year - agree the time for proportional representation has come. We cannot afford to wait any longer to build a fairer democracy - the govt must bring in PR before the next general election.

Andy Burnham must be the least self aware leader the UK has ever had. He is obscenely self entitled, a liar, and will become the most hated leader of all. Not a single vote.

🌹 The most exciting thing Andy Burnham will bring to British politics? 🙌 His strong backing for Proportional Representation. He wants the collaborative, grown-up politics he’s delivered in Manchester at national level. ✅ Fix First Past the Post first. FPTP is why our politics are broken to win parties have to rely on big tents with opposing views. Then we can actually sort Brexit and everything else. Open Britain and Fair Vote UK have been working hard on this 👏

Suella Braverman makes it crystal clear why the Makerfield by-election is out of the ordinary. If they choose Andy Burnham they are choosing the next Prime Minister, it will be open borders on steroids, it will be refugee welfare on speed, he wants to take us back into the EU and he thinks a man can be a woman. Reform are the only party who can stop Burnham and a vote for anyone other than Reform UK is a vote for Burnham. Your choice Patriots Suella Braverman Rael Braverman Talk Alex Phillips
