During the stop, it was discovered the driver was smuggling five illegal immigrants. The driver was arrested and charged federally by the U.S. Border Patrol. DPS Troopers arrested a confirmed Gulf Cartel member in Starr Co. this week as part of a joint operation under Operation Lone Star with the United States Border Patrol. On Tuesday, Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in Rio Grande City. The driver refused to stop, and a high-speed vehicle pursuit began. Eventually, the driver and three illegal immigrants exited the vehicle and went into a home.
