According to reports, the new aircraft carrier with a displacement of 110-120 thousand tons is being built at a shipyard in Dalian and is designed as a direct competitor to the American Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. Unlike previous Chinese ships, the Type 004 will combine a nuclear power plant (based on Longwei reactors) with electromagnetic catapults and a full-size deck, providing virtually unlimited sailing range. It is currently powered by the WS-21 engine, but this is expected to be upgraded soon to the more advanced WS-19.
