Before you threaten anyone with Nyanza, perhaps pause and ask yourself one simple question: Who gave you the authority to speak as though Nyanza is your personal property? Did Ruto not openly confront, teargas Raila and the entire ODM? Did he not campaign on the promise that he would retire Raila permanently to Bondo? Did he not use some of the harshest political rhetoric against the very Nyanza people you now expect us to defend him for? And what happened afterwards? Uhuru Kenyatta spent his first term attacking Raila politically. Then came the handshake, and suddenly yesterday's political enemy became today's darling. Ruto followed a remarkably similar political trajectory after years of fierce confrontation, the political script changed, alliances shifted, and suddenly the same man who had been portrayed as the enemy became part of the establishment. That is politics. We understand it. So when Gachagua exposes uncomfortable secrets about the same regime you now enthusiastically defend, your response is to threaten him and warn him against coming to Nyanza? Really? Nyanza is not anybody's political fiefdom. It does not belong to Ruto. It does not belong to Raila. It certainly does not belong to you. And threatening a Kenyan because he intends to visit another part of Kenya is not strength. It is political insecurity dressed up as authority. If you believe Gachagua is wrong, challenge his facts. Refute his allegations. Produce evidence. Explain what he got wrong. But threatening him with Nyanza does not answer a single question he has raised. It merely exposes the weakness of an argument that has no answer. And please don't mistake public patience for fear. We are a different generation. We question power. We scrutinize politicians. We don't inherit political loyalties like family property, and we certainly don't surrender our conscience because someone has been given a government position. If your defence of the government has become so absolute that you must become its mouthpiece rather than its conscience, then perhaps the problem isn't Gachagua exposing secrets. Perhaps the problem is what those secrets reveal. So, bwana Wandayi, eat your government position if that is what you choose. Defend your political interests if that is your choice. But do not threaten Nyanza in our name. Nyanza is not your property. Kenya is not your property. And neither you nor anyone else will intimidate an entire generation into silence. You have mistaken a loud mouth for authority and political office for ownership. We have heard the threats. We have been shot in the leg. We have been forced to disappear. We have hit our heads on the walls inside police cells. Now hear us clearly: HATUOGOPI! HATUTISHIKIi! HATUNYAMAZI! KENYA NI YETU SOTE! And if you thought you had finished your political journey by threatening others, perhaps you should remember one thing: The people you underestimate today are the same people who decide where your political road ends tomorrow.
