2/ CLOCK WARS: 58% want permanent Daylight Savings Time (DST) - that's the "spring forward" time we're on NOW. But President Trump & leading Republicans are pushing for permanent Standard Time instead!

3/ 18 states have ALREADY passed laws for permanent DST. But guess what? They can't do ANYTHING without Congress! The Feds passed the Uniform Time Act in 1966. 🤦♂️

4/ In 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, Florida Senator @marcorubio introduced bills to make DST permanent. In 2022, the Senate PASSED it unanimously! But then... *drum roll*... it DIED in the House.

5/ Now FL @SenRickScott has taken up the charge. He's introduced his own "Sunshine Protection Act" to make DST permanent. No more changing the clocks...if it passes.

@SenRickScott 6/ But in December, President Trump called for the OPPOSITE: Permanent Standard Time! “Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation,” the wrote.

@SenRickScott 7/ The split often reflects regional, not political, differences, based on where time zones fall. A year-round “spring forward” would mean winter sunrises that could creep past 9 a.m. in cities such as Indianapolis and Detroit.

@SenRickScott 8/ Congress actually passed permanent DST in 1973. It immediately backfired. Parents worried about children waiting in the dark for school buses. Many blamed the policy for causing traffic accidents on dark winter mornings. Congress rolled back the change after just 10 months

@SenRickScott 9/ Today, roughly two-thirds of Americans want to end the clock changes. But like President Trump and the GOP Senators, they're divided on how: permanent Standard Time or permanent DST. Either way politicians go, they're going to get hit.

@SenRickScott 10/ Karin Johnson, a neurologist who serves as co-chair of the Coalition for Permanent Standard Time, says the evidence is clear. “Year-round standard time aligns best with human circadian biology and is the superior option for overall health.”

@SenRickScott 11/ “We believe permanent standard time aligns with DOGE and HHS mandates for the most efficient and natural way to improve health, safety, and productivity by using the natural power of the sun,” Johnson said.

@SenRickScott 12/ The disagreement is not going to end soon. But the President said it best last week: “If something is a 50-50 issue, it’s hard to get excited about it.” Odds are, in a few months, we're all going to have to "fall back".

Should Trump and Musk take a wrecking ball to our govt? Senator Warren says they are already doing so.
