In the last 38 hours we've had 1.7 and 1.1 X-flares from the Sun, earthquake activity off the coast of Japan (M6.8, M6.4, M6.0) has becoming worrying and looking like foreshock activity for a BIG earthquake (M8+), and we're now in a S1 radiation storm from the 2nd X-flare. Multiple solar storm impacts are expected over the next few days. Big linear planetary alignment occurs on the 20th with the Sun, Mercury, Moon, Earth, and Uranus with Pluto and Saturn+Neptune in harmonic aspects. Yikes...

A series of reoccurring coronal holes are starting their rotation through Earth-center, and the trans-equatorial coronal hole will be geoeffective in ~5 days. Earth was in the high-speed solar wind from this coronal hole after a G2 geomagnetic storm for the M7.8 Philippines EQ.

Aurora borealis was seen around the world last night — all because of an extremely powerful solar flare On Sunday, the first major solar flare of the year occurred — an X1.95-class event. A cloud of charged particles reached Earth in less than 24 hours. On the night of January 19–20, the aurora was observed in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Western Europe, and North America. An extremely strong geomagnetic storm hit the planet. Geomagnetic activity nearly reached the maximum G5 level. Disruptions have been reported worldwide. The Earth's magnetic field protects us not only from solar flares but also from cosmic radiation. When the Sun enters a Grand Solar Minimum, its magnetic field weakens for a long period. This lets more cosmic radiation into the Solar System, and this directly impacts the climate on Earth and increases volcanic activity. The last Little Ice Age occurred during a Grand Solar Minimum. But the coming Grand Solar Minimum is going to hit harder because the Earth's magnetic field is at least 30% weaker and, with the ongoing geomagnetic excursion, is continuing to weaken. This will let in more cosmic radiation, which will directly cause mutations, pandemics, cooling, crop failures, and even crustal displacement. Since the advent of modern technology, we haven't experienced either a Grand Solar Minimum or a geomagnetic excursion, and we are due for both.

The volatility - yes, volatility - in AR 4366 is absolutely unbelievable. I don't think I have ever used the word 'volatility' to describe an active region. The X-ray flux has been mostly above the M-class threshold for *35 hours* now. There have been 25+ M-class and 4 X-class flares. It is unfortunate that most of these flares are impulsive, else we'd have a train of CMEs en route and likely impacting by now. Even so, the show is incredible, one of the highlights of Solar Cycle 25 - we will be talking about this for a long time!

The entire month of May 2025 in the Sun’s atmosphere. Although the Sun produced a few large solar flares, sunspot numbers were the lowest we’ve seen since August 2022. We are likely now slowly moving towards solar minimum, but we still expect large flares throughout this decline!

The second of today’s X-class solar flares was truly a long-duration event. Where typical flares last 10s of minutes, this event took over 6 hours. The flare also showed a fundamental part of solar flares: a ‘current sheet’. #spaceweather 1/5

🚨 THE SUN JUST PUNCHED EARTH IN THE MAGNETIC FACE - AND WE LOVED IT On November 11, the Sun fired off an X5.1 solar flare - the biggest of 2025 - and hurled a plasma freight train at Earth at 600+ km/s. Twenty-four hours later, it slammed into our magnetosphere like a cosmic battering ram. NASA’s model shows it perfectly: Earth, a tiny blue marble at the center… Red zones whipping past like solar shrapnel… Magnetic field lines bending, twisting, screaming under the impact. This is what a geomagnetic storm looks like when the universe decides to remind you who’s in charge. The fallout? Satellites jitter. GPS drifts. HF comms get scrambled. And the sky throws a rave - auroras blooming far south of where they have any business being. With the Sun climbing toward peak activity, this won’t be the last hit. With two preceding CMEs already on their way, this event will further intensify the geomagnetic activity on an already weakened magnetic field. The earlier CMEs are already arriving, but the one from the X5 flare has not yet reached Earth.
