Weight painting lips and eyelids has always been a major pain when it comes to character rigging, so our co-founder Vladimir Mokhov spent a couple of weeks and made a tool to automate the entire thing. 🔶 This will be included as part of a toolkit for our upcoming Ultimate Character Rigging course (in Blender) at TOAnimate 4️⃣ The tool uses 4 points on a loop (corners and upper/lower mid points) and breaks it into quadrants, then distributes weights evenly along the points within the quadrants based on the step count, calculating distance between the points. This makes sure that every point is weighted identically and consistently. The weight generation/distribution is done through geometry nodes, and the rest is with python scripting. Crafted from exactly 3,000 custom shapes, this build pushed my creative and technical limits like never before — a big challenge, but an even greater honour to bring to life. I am usually busy reporting on all the teams I have the joy and honor of covering. However, this post is going to be a little different. My oldest brother Kysen Howard, a senior CSU Pueblo Baseball, broke his hand over the weekend. This injury ends his collegiate career. He has aspirations and the capability to play at the next level but as you can imagine my family is crossing our fingers and saying our prayers that my brother gets another year of eligibility due to this season ending injury. One of those reasons is also because he got to share the field, the dugout and wear the same uniform as our little brother for the first time ever. We had two Howards on the same field this season and it’s been an absolute joy as their older sister and for our family. Obviously, we are crushed that the season is ending this way for him but I know there is much more ahead for him and his career whatever that may look like. I’m sharing two videos bc in this moment I get to “report” and share the cool story of my brother(s). The first video is a brief highlight of my brother Kysen this season. If you take a few moments to watch, you’ll see why I’ve loved getting to watch him play this game for my entire life. His baseball journey hasn’t always been easy but he’s been persistent, dedicated beyond measure and above all else, he plays with such a passion that’s led him to have this kind of success at the collegiate level. The second video will be something my family enjoys for the rest of our life. Although this season is ending abruptly I am so glad we will have this memory forever. ♥️
