BREAKING: I just signed the bill to extend postpartum coverage for Wisconsin moms from a lousy 60 days to one full year after giving birth. I promised I'd never stop fighting to make sure moms and babies had the postpartum care they need, and today, I delivered on that promise.

This is an amazing win for women in Wisconsin. Hopefully this becomes universal for all mothers!

Omg you guys, it has nothing to do with the employer!!! Its extended healthcare coverage for post partum. Because usually medicaid only covers moms until 60 days after birth then she gets dropped. This makes it so mom can get extended necessary care. It's a good thing.

It is amazing to see a politician, do something that actually benefits the citizens of this great nation. It’s so rare. It’s almost suspicious, but I want to believe that this is truly and sincerely for the benefit of the family. I hope that’s the case.

Also..for ppl who dnt think ppl on Medicaid pay taxes: I was a full-time $9/hr Preschl Teacher & I qualified for Medicaid. I paid my share of taxes. Eventually having to take a 2nd job when I got a .50 raise cuz I no longer qualified.

Behind this bill are thousands of mothers who won’t have to choose between healing and survival anymore. The baby is born in a day… recovery takes months. This is for that unseen journey.

For everyone in the comments incorrectly saying this is a 1 year paid maternity leave - it’s not. This is extending postpartum medicaid coverage to 1 year. Wisconsin was just 1 of 2 states not to have extended such coverage to new moms

This is great! In '06,I had a difficult birth,it caused damage that resultd in needing 2 surgeries (@ 8 wks & 6 mnths pp) me & my Drs had to fight tooth & nail to get my medicaid extended (cuz it was related to the birth) thankfully I did, but it wsnt easy, great news for WI moms
