During this phenomenon, the moon entirely blocks out the sun, turning day into darkness for over 4 minutes. While almost everyone in the lower 48 states can witness a partial eclipse, the 115-mile-wide path of totality, where the moon completely obscures the sun, will only be visible in 15 states including parts of Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, extending to Canada.
