It started with seeds and the power to control them - In the 80s, corporations began patenting life, not by creating it, but by tweaking seeds nature had already made and calling them their own - Then came the pitch: higher yields, fewer pests, simpler farming, and for struggling farmers, that sounded like salvation - But here's the catch: the seeds were patented. You couldn't save them from one harvest to the next. You had to buy them again, every season. That was never the case before. For thousands of years, seeds were passed down, replanted, improved. They belonged to the land and to the people who worked it. And now? Well, most farmers can't even plant without signing a contract - 4 companies control over 60% of the world's seeds - In some vegetables, they control 95% - And the pesticide? Only their seed survives it. So you buy the chemical too, from the same company. If farmers step outside the system, they risk losing their harvest. If they break the rules, they risk getting sued. That's not support, that's a trap. And what do we end up with? Farmers that are stuck by diversity collapsing and food that's made in labs instead of grown in soil. This was never about helping farmers, it was about replacing them.”
