CENTCOM Partners with Over 30 Nations, International Organizations for International Maritime Exercise (IMX) 2025 U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) hosted the International Maritime Exercise (IMX) 2025, the Middle East region’s largest multinational maritime exercise, February 9-20. IMX 25 involved 5,000 personnel from more than 30 nations and international organizations committed to preserving the rules-based international order and strengthening regional maritime security cooperation. Hosted by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), the 12-day exercise offered a unique opportunity for participants to collaborate and illustrate the importance of regional maritime security cooperation. This year’s iterations of IMX is linked with exercise Cutlass Express, a U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa led annual exercise designed to enhance regional maritime awareness and the combined capabilities of partner nations to respond to maritime threats. The operational phase of IMX included partner exchanges on mine countermeasures, unmanned systems and artificial intelligence integration, vessel defense, search and rescue, and mass casualty response. Allies and partners at IMX 25 also had an opportunity to train with Combined Task Force West (CTF-W) Headquarters where partner forces performed Explosive Ordnance Disposal and dive operations, Close Quarters Combat drills, and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) container climbs. Additionally, CTF-W hosted eight partner nations, including six members from the Republic of Yemen Government (ROYG) Coast Guard in Aqaba, the Northern Red Sea, and Eilat. “IMX 25 demonstrates the collective commitment of our respective allies and partners to support regional maritime security cooperation, increase interoperability, and strengthen security and stability in the region,” said Gen. Vessels were urged to keep alternative navigation methods available and to carry and use a traditional compass when necessary. One video circulating online shows a Somali sailor filming from the Strait of Hormuz. In the clip he says three ships were burning while trying to pass through the strait. He claims the vessels involved were the Mayuree Naree, the ONE Majesty, which reportedly suffered minor damage, and the Star Gwyneth, which reportedly sustained hull damage. Another video also circulating online appears to show a Shahid Soleimani class corvette after it was struck by CENTCOM forces. PCG and BFAR Successfully Deliver Supplies to Filipino Fishermen in West Philippine Sea Amidst Chinese Illegal Presence and Intimidation In a significant demonstration of the Philippine government's unwavering support for its fishermen, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) successfully completed a vital aid distribution mission in the West Philippine Sea today, despite aggressive actions from Chinese maritime forces. This operation, part of the "Kadiwa sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda" initiative, underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of Filipino fishermen and asserting maritime jurisdiction. Following a Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) flight on October 7 that revealed a considerable presence of Filipino fishing boats near Bajo de Masinloc and Escoda Shoal, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan swiftly deployed four multi-role response vessels: the 97-meter BRP Teresa Magbanua and the 44-meter BRP Cabra to Bajo de Masinloc, and the 97-meter BRP Melchora Aquino along with another 44-meter PCG vessel to Escoda Shoal. In close collaboration with BFAR, an additional 11 vessels were mobilized—6 to Bajo de Masinloc and 5 to Escoda Shoal—to facilitate the distribution of essential supplies. Operations began at 5 a.m., with PCG personnel engaging over 45 fishing boats at both locations. In this Wall Street Journal The Wall Street Journal video report, I used my KTT's Wargame to help visualize the China Coast Guard activities that took place during the PLA’s “Justice Mission-2025” military exercise around Taiwan last December. The main focus of the video is how Taiwan’s Coast Guard responds to threats from the China Coast Guard and China’s maritime militia. The feature also includes interviews with Legislator Kuan-ting Chen 🇹🇼陳冠廷 Kuan-Ting Chen, chair of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee in Taiwan’s Parliament, discussing the current cross-strait maritime situation. My role was to visualize relevant operational scenarios through my wargame system and explain the possible roles of the China Coast Guard during a military blockade scenario. Beyond the footage that appeared in the final video, I also discussed during the interview that a military blockade effectively means war has already begun, as military forces could potentially strike military or civilian vessels and aircraft attempting to breach the blockade. In such a scenario, the China Coast Guard’s primary tasks would likely focus on expelling, intercepting, boarding, inspecting, and detaining Taiwanese and foreign non-military vessels, while military targets would more likely remain the responsibility of the PLA Navy, Air Force, and Rocket Force. I also discussed the challenges Taiwan could face in securing critical supplies and energy imports during a blockade, as well as the current operational patterns of China’s maritime militia. It was a unique opportunity to take part in this production. On one hand, it was a valuable opportunity to help explain the maritime threats Taiwan faces to an international audience alongside officers serving in Taiwan’s Coast Guard and Legislator Chen Kuan-ting. On the other hand, it also gave me the chance to use KTT's Wargame to further visualize the military situation in the Taiwan Strait. Many thanks to Joyu Wang, Todd, and Javier for all the coordination and production work that made this opportunity possible.
