Activists from a new group, Palestinian Martyrs for Justice, occupied the roof of an arms factory in the West Midlands last night. After crashing through the gates of the Moog Aircraft Group site in Wolverhampton, four people, each wearing T-shirts bearing the faces of Palestinians killed in recent Israeli strikes and detentions, used tools to begin dismantling the factory and halting production. Moog, a US-owned company, has reportedly sent at least 10 shipments since December to Israel’s Hatzerim airbase, where Elbit Systems trains pilots on F-16 and F-35 jets used in Gaza. The occupation was the group’s first public action, aimed at highlighting Britain’s role in supplying parts to Israel’s defence industry. It’s the largest hunger strike in the UK since the 1981 Irish prisoners hunger strike. The two planes they sabotaged were only involved in counter ISIS operations in Iraq and Syria. British MPs have voted 385 to 26 in favour of legislation to designate Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. The order is expected to come into effect later this week. Legal action is being taken to temporarily block the order, with a hearing scheduled for Friday at London's High Court.
