X FLARE IN PROGRESS: Here we go again active region 3664 just produced an X4 flare that peaked at 06:50 UT. That would be the 4th largest X-ray flare so far during this solar cycle. Clearly there was ejecta off to its north which demonstrates that a CME was launched towards Earth

Solar activity just keeps coming! We've had two X-class flares today from Region 3947. The first one, (the X1.2) was eruptive but the #solarstorm that was launched was not Earth-directed. HF #radio operators expect the R3-level #RadioBlackout risk to stay high this week.

You can see the disturbance from the recent X5 solar flare covering nearly half of the Sun. It produced a fast, full-halo CME with a highly dense core. With two preceding CMEs already on their way, this event will further intensify the geomagnetic activity on an already weakened magnetic field. The earlier CMEs are already arriving, but the one from the X5 flare has not yet reached Earth.

We have some significant sunspots now close to the Sun's central meridian such that if there is a big flare & coronal mass ejection, it's likely to be Earth-directed. For three days now though solar x-ray flux has been normal at c-class levels. Maybe we get a big pop, maybe not...
