As an independent who mildly leans right and typically does not like Senator Cruz, we need more prominent figured like Ted speaking out against these tariffs. Rand Paul was kinda expected but the more staunchly pro-Trump politicians that speak out against these tariffs, at least their implementation could be skewed.

The reality of this situation is getting bigger by the minute. Too much bigger to deny being affected by it. This is not a left or right issue. This is just bad policy affecting the American people. It’s right or wrong. The economy is shit. The market is crashing.( I am losing a significant amount of money every day ) the cost of living is up. Everything is bad. I just don’t understand why people are so afraid to speak up. Fuck being scared of this wanna be dictator. It’s time for people that say they care about America to do something about and fight, regardless of party. It’s Us vs Trump. America is bigger than just one person. A person that hates her and the idea she was founded on. How do we know this ? because while people are scrambling to figure out what to do and how to survive he is spending taxpayer dollars to golf every single weekend at his very own country club.

If I was king for a day, I would offer zero U.S. tariffs on goods from other countries if they would levy zero tariffs on our goods sold to them. Trade is more complicated than that, and we live in the real world, but that should be the ideal.

Let me be crystal clear. Tariffs absolutely impact the economy. The idea was supposed to be simple, reciprocal tariffs against VAT taxes. If Switzerland charges an 8.3% VAT on American goods, fine, charge 8.3% on Swiss goods coming into the U.S. Watches, gold bars, clean and balanced. Everyone understands that. Instead, we slapped on a 39% tariff and created chaos overnight. That is not strategy, that's friction. Eventually this all has to come back to reciprocity. Trade only works when it feels fair on both sides. And here’s where the policy really breaks down. Take aluminum. You need bauxite to make it. We don’t have enough of it, it takes ten years to build a plant, and you need nearly a gigawatt of power that our grid doesn’t even have right now. So no, tariffs are not magically creating jobs tomorrow. Before anything else, eliminate tariffs on things we don’t and can’t produce ourselves, bauxite, potash, bananas, pineapples. Why tax yourself?

When you put on tariffs to try and fix trade imbalance it's difficult because the largest economy on Earth is the United States. So really you're starting a behemoth negotiation, and it's happening in every country. You can assume that behind the scenes are two spheres of negotiations. One is let's try and reduce the imbalance of trade by buying more stuff from the United States. That's one signal. And the other, which is very easy to fix, is simply remove all tariffs. If you're going to have reciprocal tariffs at 20%, 30%, 40%, just get rid of them, bring them down to zero.
