Following inflammatory calls for violence against Sikhs by Hindu Sabha Temple priest Rajinder Parsad, an Indo-Canadian Hindu man allegedly attacked and killed Malhi, a prominent supporter of Khalistan. Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on November 9, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment responded to a residence on Deer Ridge Trail, where they discovered Malhi critically injured. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Contrary to CSIS Canada's 2024 Public Report, which stated “non-violent advocacy for an independent state of Khalistan is not considered extremism," Conservative Party's Melissa Lantsman & Shuv Majumdar, both equated Sikh political advocacy for Khalistan as "terror" in recent speeches. Melissa Lantsman, when identifying current terrorist threats to Canada said, "Elements of Khalistani terror who terrorize communities and people in their neighbourhoods in this country.” She did not allude to what "Khalistani terror" has recently occurred in Canadian neighbourhoods. There has been, however, Indian government-orchestrated criminal gangs committing homicides, arsons, and shootings in Canadian neighbourhoods, targeting Sikhs, as part of a broader campaign of transnational repression. Shuvaloy Majumdar called out terror groups in Canada and said, “To never back down, to never surrender, and to never be afraid to name them, whether they are Hamas or Hezbollah or Khalistan or anything else.” Khalistan, unlike Hamas or Hezbollah, is not an organization or group, but a name given to the long-standing principles of Sikh self-determination. Baaz reached out to the CPC asking if these recent comments are official party positions. We did not receive a response in time for this post. Sikh organizations had also reached out to the CPC, asking for clarification on these recent comments, but did not hear back.

In these videos, the assailants can be heard shouting, urging the removal of Sikhs' turbans, which hold profound religious significance, with the intention of dishonoring this sacred Sikh symbol. The UK's leniency towards Hindutva extremists can be attributed to their favorable relationship with India and its leader, Modi. Democracy only has meaning if it protects everyone’s right to speak, not just those we agree with. In this video, a young man is manhandled and dragged away simply for expressing his support for President William Ruto serving two terms. The double standard is hard to ignore. When someone calls for a one-term presidency, it’s defended as freedom of expression. But when another person supports two terms, they are met with intimidation and violence. You don’t have to agree with someone’s political opinion to defend their right to express it. That’s what democracy is about. If we believe in free speech, then it must apply equally to every Kenyan, regardless of political affiliation. Let people express themselves peacefully, and let voters make the final decision at the ballot box, not through threats or force.

UPDATE: This is London, England right now. This is a massive rally for the Palestinian people. I'm Jewish. I support Israel's right to exist and right to live without fear of a terrorist attack like last weekend. With that said, I also support the rights of these people, who use their voice in a non-violent way, to express themselves. I may disagree with many of the things they say, but peaceful assembly and protest is not bad. Violent assembly, the calling for death or calling for the destruction of a group of people is another story. We must all recognize the difference. Palestinians protesting = OK Hamas purposefully killing civilians = NOT OK Palestinians calling for violence = NOT OK.
