Brian Clough speaking in 1990, on the fallout with his long-time assistant manager, Peter Taylor…

Brian Moore had a fantastic knack of getting the best out if whoever he was interviewing

Peter Taylor died a few months after this interview. Pity they never made up particularly as Clough more or less acknowledged at the end there that he missed him.

Something strangely heartbreaking and touching about this at the same time. Shame their relationship never recovered, but also wonderful how despite it all, reminiscing made gave him such a smile.

The last bit is very poignant. Can’t help thinking it was a relatively trivial thing to fall out with someone over to the point you never speak to them again. But it’s clear both men could be guilty of stubbornness.

Ah man that last bit was very sad. Thought I’d seen all the Clough interviews but never this one.

@DavidGreenwooda Wonder if Clough’s alcohol problem in his last year or two managing was partly related the not making up the fallout before it was too late.

He cried his eyes out when Taylor died. It’s all very sad.

Moral: Appreciate and you should never take friends for granted...people get " caught up " in to many trivalities..and then it's too late...

I think I read it in his Cloughs’ autobiography that his only regret was that he never made up with Peter Taylor before he passed away.
