Want to blow a conspiracy account’s mind? The Senate doesn’t “impeach” presidents, and impeachment doesn’t nullify a term. The 22nd Amendment says no person can be elected president more than twice. There is no secret “oops, impeachment erased my presidency” clause.

That's not even a little true, but I'll bet that most liberals would believe it.

I would love for this to be true, however, there is no provision that nullifies a President's term or counts it differently. Impeachment without conviction has no effect on term limits or eligibility. If I'm wrong, please show me where it states differently in the Constitution.

The claim in the post—that a House impeachment (without Senate conviction) "nullifies" a president's term and resets the clock for the 22nd Amendment—is not supported by the U.S. Constitution or any legal precedent.

Not accurate at all. And this is why we are all fucked up; posting shit like this and the simple minded folks believe it.

The claim that a president who is impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate gets their first term “nullified” and can run for two more terms has no basis in the U.S. Constitution. The 22nd Amendment is straightforward: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice…” It doesn’t mention impeachment at all.

Yes he can run again but still can’t serve more than two terms based on the 22nd amendment. Did none of you MAGATs learn American history? You’re embarrassing!

No, the US Constitution does not say that anywhere. This is a debunked myth.

All he has to do is run as a VP and when he wins the President steps down and he gets promoted.

Not according to the 22nd amendment. I'd like to look at the language you're referencing if you can provide it.

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice..." There is no provision anywhere in the Constitution stating that impeachment by the House—whether or not the Senate convicts—allows a president to run for two additional terms or resets the term limit.

SA Andrews's profile picture

WRONG. If a president is impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate, they are not removed from office. since they remain the sitting president, their time in office counts toward their term limits. even if impeached by the senate the 22nd amendment would deny a 3rd term

Crazzy Horse's profile picture

There is no provision for term reset due to failed impeachment. The 22nd Amendment states "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice." Impeachment by the House = an indictment, a conviction by the Senate results in removal or disqualification.
