This accelerated the Jewish Diaspora, as Jews were slain, enslaved or scattered across the empire — though a Jewish remnant always remained in the land. In the 7th century AD, Muhammad began preaching around 610 AD, and Islam spread rapidly after his death in 632. Smotrich has openly called for annexing 82% of the West Bank under the principle “maximum land, minimum Arab population” and has explicitly said settlement expansion is intended to prevent a Palestinian state. Then there is E1, designed in a way that would drive a wedge through the West Bank, escalating settler violence, Palestinian displacement and continuing land seizures. That is why sanctions are being discussed. If Britain says settlements are illegal, there eventually has to be a consequence for continually expanding them. Otherwise “international law” is just a slogan reserved for countries we dislike.
