Hermes can now search and extract the web on a fresh install with zero API keys. Behind the scenes, it rotates requests across the public free tiers from Exa, Parallel, Tavily, Firecrawl, and Keenable. If one provider rate limits, Hermes automatically tries the next. Configured backends and API keys still take priority. The keyless ring is a last resort fallback, not guaranteed infrastructure, and it can be disabled entirely.

Google engineers and MIT researchers ran 260 controlled agent experiments across 6 benchmarks, 5 architectures, and the OpenAI, Gemini, and Claude model families to find out when Multi Agent systems actually help and when adding more agents quietly destroys performance the average result was brutal: −0.3%. best case: +80.8% worst case: −70.0% the key threshold was around a 45% single agent baseline. below it, extra agents can help. above it, coordination often becomes pure overhead. on parallel tasks, Multi Agent reached +80.8%. on sequential tasks, it collapsed by as much as 70%. 3 agents needed 26 to 44 interaction rounds. a single agent needed 7.2. error amplification also hit 17.2× in independent parallel systems. their final framework predicts the right architecture with 87% accuracy.

Tencent just released Hy4 Preview: a 770B-parameter open-source model with 49B active parameters and a 1M-token context window. The most interesting part is its agentic research capability. Tencent says Hy4 coordinated several Codex sessions in parallel, evaluated their results and adjusted the research direction, outperforming Codex working alone across eight benchmarks. Hy4 is aimed at long-horizon coding, multi-file office work and scientific research. In sum: a solid, good release. A few months ago this would be absolute sota.

The most exciting thing that I've been working on lately in the file search field is the GPU acceleration of file search. You might think that I'm dumb or something, but it is a real next step. fff is already on the edge of what is possible on CPU, but our design with the storage is actually oriented on the embarrassingly parallel search, which couldn't be more effective than on GPU. If you'd think about this deeper: 99% of the time file search happens on the local machine of the user. Your melting macbook pro that is using precious CPU cycles to build your Rust project right now is getting wasted on the smart typo-resistant fuzzy matching which is a quadratic complexity algorithm that needs more resources the longer your query is. What if we use GPU instead? Cause we already have it and it is likely idle if user is typing into a search box. And honestly there are some good results so far. I was able to bring fff down to 20% cpu usage at all times no matter how absurdly long your queries are and no matter how many files you have Here is a little sneak peak. Running on M4 max 1.6TB home dir
