I watched it live and assumed this was coming because Grohl was in the house. I think the last time they did it, along with Zach Brown, was at 11-11-11 (maybe feature that at some point? This coming Vet’s Day?)

Nathaniel Rateliff should have sung the whole song himself. Bruce sounds constipated and Dave sounds like a frog. 🐸

Great performance but it rings hollow being sung by multi millionaires.🤣

WATCH. Rocking Out “in the Free World,” with Millionaires, a Possible Billionaire and “Election Day” Activism By night’s end at “Power to the People,” organizer Tom Morello introduces Bruce Springsteen as a “fellow freedom fighter.” Springsteen describes the “whistles and phones” of ICE Watch patrols targeting Trump administration official Stephen Miller and former Attorney General Kristi Noem over immigration enforcement before singing—and shouting—“ICE Out.” Springsteen then reaches back to his classic anti-privilege song, “I Ain’t No Senator’s Son,” before joining Dave Matthews in a celebration of “rocking out in the free world.” “Grandson” lashes out at “the billionaires” while performing alongside millionaires and an estimated billionaire in Springsteen. Morello invokes Woody Guthrie, saying Guthrie knew that “every inch” of America was “stole from the Indigenous people,” before leading non-Native artists in “This Land Is Your Land.” And while the festival features 22 nonprofits that aren’t supposed to engage in partisan politics or election activity, Morello makes the political objective explicit: The goal, he says, is to have an impact on “Election Day and beyond that.” The night ends with Morello chanting, “Fists in the air, fists in the air,” Springsteen and the rest of the celebrity millionaire class beside him in a political rally dressed as a rock concert, with the fervor of a Red Party revival.
