This is exactly what not to do if you get cauliflower ear from wrestling or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It’s always best to go to the Dr and they usually use a needle to release some of the pressure. This looks very painful!! It is a right of passage for some of these fighters and a lot of them “want” to get it.

JIU JITSU SAVES LIVES 👏💙 About an hour ago, our 18yo blue belt assistant kids coach @gavintiarcher10pmma was at the gym when he caught a man breaking into his car. In the video you will see G confront the man. Upon being confronted the man charges and attacks G inside the gym. Due to G’s years of martial arts & Jiu jitsu training, he was able to minimize the strikes that were being thrown at him by judo tossing the man to the ground, securing the man’s back, and choking him unconscious to eliminate the immediate threat of danger so he could call the police. The man was found at a hospital down the road and is in custody. THIS is why Jiu Jitsu saves lives. Imagine if G had no training at all when this man attacked him. He could be seriously hurt or dead. Find a Jiu Jitsu school and enroll yourself or your kiddos in it IMMEDIATELY. You're correct. Jiu jitsu and wrestling has filled this gap in our family as both sports constantly provide discomfort, suffering, and extreme mental, physical, and emotional challenges teaching so many things. These arts have made my children resilient, adaptable, GRITTY, respectful, appreciative, and more. Thanks to Jocko Willink for the Way of the Warrior Kid Anthology, which is the rug tying it all together with the ethos of training, studying, and working hard in all things.

3-13-13 I began my journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Throughout my entire journey in BJJ, I’ve learned more about myself than ever expected. The latest chapter in my BJJ path has been having my own students. It has been my great privilege and honor to teach Jamie Mathias and Jake Luhrs and Josh Middleton the martial art. Not only did these 3 people start off as musicians I look up to, but now I am so filled with joy that they’re close pals of mine. The blue belt is a tremendous deal - and Jamie without a doubt is an exemplary martial artist, musical artist, and friend who without a doubt deserved this promotion. Congratulations to one of my best pals on earth, Jamie!!

A woman is asking a question that has the internet divided - why is it that people travel to countries around the world saying they’re going to “find a wife,” but you almost never hear anyone say they’re coming to America for that same reason, outside of green card situations? I think America has some beautiful and amazing women, so this question hits different. As a black belt, this is how I prefer to roll, not driven by personal development or even the enjoyment of it. I roll because it is good in and of itself. I strive to give of myself generously and to take what comes my way openly, without apology. Most of my time on the mat is spent guiding others, helping them navigate Jiu Jitsu. But when it’s my turn to roll, it becomes an experience that exists purely for its own sake. Jiu Jitsu is a ritual, not an outlet for pent-up emotions, nor is it a stage for personal theatrics. It transcends the release or display of personality. If anything, it functions as an escape from emotion and personality. Within this space of calm detachment, there emerges a kind of vision or fluency. This vision is the capacity to take the unpredictable and the unforeseen and seamlessly integrate it in a way that brings new meaning and value. Instead of feeling destabilized by the unexpected, allow it to deepen your perspective. The question is not how to avoid disruptions, but how to dance with them, absorb them, and become more adaptable through the encounter.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got in my Jiu-Jitsu journey… When I was a blue belt juvenile, some of my training partners kept saying I was using too much strength. In my mind, I didn’t think I was. My instructor came to talk to me and asked, “Bernardo, are you using too much strength?” I said, “I guess so, since everyone is saying it.” Then he asked, “Are you getting tired?” I told him, “No, I have good cardio and I have been training and lifting a lot.” He looked at me and said, “Then keep using your strength.” That advice stayed with me forever. For me, the main lesson is simple. In Jiu-Jitsu, the right thing is whatever works for you. If you are doing something and it works, do not let anyone tell you it is wrong or that you should change it. Whatever works is the right way. What are your thoughts?
