I putted well on fast greens, slopey greens. I felt like it was the most open and fair championship for tough golf out there, that every week it could be anybody's week, right? And I think it's the difficult part about professional golf is that no matter if you're playing the best golf of your life, you can go up there and not play your best." Since Covid, golf has become increasingly more mainstream. Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the Travelers Championship how he feels about the impact it’s had on the game: “Yeah, I think it's great for golf to become more mainstream. I think you see, especially since COVID, there's been a tremendous growth in the amount of people that are playing golf. “I think it's the greatest game in the world. You learn a lot about life. I met some of my best friends in the whole world playing golf. So for people getting involved in the sport I think is tremendous. “Like I said, getting to spend four hours with somebody outside hanging out playing a game is something that's pretty rare in the busyness I think that we live in today. So getting out taking some time with your buddies and going to play golf is one of the most fun things you can do. Especially when you start playing, you learn a lot about life and how to handle things and it's a challenging game as well, so overall I think it's just a great sport for anybody to get involved in.” PGA TOUR TravelersChamp

Cam Smith and his Ripper teammates think LIV should travel more outside of the US to build a fanbase in different global regions, especially those that have a location based LIV team like South Africa and Chile. They are also keen to play more of an international schedule to showcase quality golf to fans who haven’t seen it in a while. Cam: “I think the Australian fans is pretty hard to recreate around the world, but you just pick a city or a country that's been kind of -- I guess hadn't seen good golf for a long time. It worked last year. It's going to work again this year here. I can see it definitely working internationally a lot better than the U.S. because there's just so many tournaments in the U.S. I'm definitely putting my hand up for more of an international schedule and getting fans out that haven't seen quality golf for a while and showing them what LIV is all about.” Leish: “Yeah, I think like Cam said, there's opportunities all around the world, markets that haven't been hit yet like Adelaide hadn't been. You've got Torque -- there's an opportunity for a tournament in Chile; the South African lads I'm sure would love to have one in South Africa; you've got all of Asia and India. There's just so many opportunities, and I think places like Cam said that haven't seen world-class golf for a long time, I think that's where there's huge opportunities. Obviously the Tour plays a lot in America, and they've got that fan base there. I think we can really create a huge worldwide fan base because there's a lot of big financial markets around the whole world.” Lucas: “I guess that team aspect, as well, it makes it very easy for a country, for example, Chile to follow the Torque team or all those sort of markets. Honestly, I think by all reports that I'm hearing about this event last year and obviously what I've seen so far, I think you're going to struggle to recreate it 13 times again around the world. It's just a special event. It obviously won best golf event of the year last year, so it's going to be hard to recreate that 13 more times. But I do feel like with that team element, with it being quite a country -- a country is sort of dominating each team, I feel like that is going to allow for maybe a market where our international events can get hyped up really, really well and really get behind a home team kind of feeling.” I love this approach and they have really hit the nail on the head here. They should reduce that number, and concentrate on building platforms in different regions around the world to truly “grow the game” and be the elite world tour. LIV Golf have sold nearly 100,000 tickets for their first ever event in South Africa, putting it on track to comfortably be the best attended golf event ever held in the country. Charl Schwartzel spoke about the growth of LIV Golf since their inaugural event in 2022: “Yeah, I mean, that first event in June in 2022, there was a lot of turmoil in our sport, a lot of uncertainty. Obviously it was coming from guys that had come to LIV. Nobody was sure what to expect… “But from a LIV standpoint, it's been fantastic to be part of it, to see how it's grown, gotten better. Every year they improve. “We've had a taste of it every year in Adelaide, where you can see what it can be, because that's like the pinnacle of the LIV events. Now just to see what we've created here in South Africa, it makes you very proud to see. This is fantastic. “I don't think there's any -- there's never been a golfing event in South Africa that's ever been set up like this, and I don't think many sporting events here. This is really amazing, and it's sort of a great -- to have seen, and like I said, proud to be a part of it, that's what we thought and what we were told it could be when we signed up with LIV, and it's really come to life. Max Homa says he doesn’t agree with the ruling on Bryson DeChambeau yesterday and says he knows Bryson would “never cheat the game of golf”: “I'm not really, I guess, wanting to be able to decide on fair, because they're the rules officials. I only saw one angle, and in my opinion I didn't agree with the ruling. I know there's another angle that -- side on, it's always hard to tell if it improves anything. “All I know is I've known Bryson for a very long time, and he's an interesting human at times, but I know he would never cheat the game of golf. I don't really love how it happened. It's not that the R&A said that he did it intentionally, but that rule as a professional golfer feels like it's written inherently to protect against people trying to improve their lie. So I just hope that people don't have that -- that doesn't create a narrative because I don't believe that of him. “But again, I'm not going to sit here -- it's really hard to tell anything. So yeah, that one is not up for me to judge. But it's a shame how that ruling feels because it seems like -- we were talking about it this morning. It's like you would try to call somebody out in junior golf because you could tell they were stomping around the ball. It didn't look like that to me. But that's not up to me. The lack of perceived value of the LIV Golf League and its teams has attracted a lot of attention over the past few years. But Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC have been one of the most successful franchises and he says they’ve cleared more than $20 million in revenue: “I'll tell you from our side of the coin, that the Crushers have been doing very well. We hired a GM and we’re hiring more people this year, but it's slow. I'm not over expanding too quick, like some teams, and I feel like we're a lean, mean machine. It's done great and we've been having positive EBITDA, positive for the past few seasons and our revenue is above $20 million, which is amazing. And next year it's going to be even more. “So, I'm pretty pumped about our team, and what we have the capability of doing. You know me, I'm always optimistic. I always want to see the best in people, and want to see how to create the most value. So, all I can speak for is how I run the team and what we've done economically for the team has been.. quite amazing. “You know, it’s been a lot of work, but I'm personally stoked for how my GM is running the team and how we we're running as, you know, I can be quite honest, we're doing the best out of any team. So, I'm really, really happy about that. And, I wouldn't be doing this any other way.” The $20 million figure caught me off guard, and I’m sure it will many others. Especially with so much being reported about the lack of revenue within the league. This once again proves Bryson’s value and highlights the strong position he is in with his contract negotiations. While we’re on contacts, is Bryson bringing back Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri to Crushers GC in 2026? “Yes, the same guys are coming back. Yeah, I love them to death and they're great people, great golfers.” And while we talk about changes, does Bryson think LIV Golf could improve on anything? “Yeah, I mean, there’s plenty of things that the PGA Tour could improve on, right? And I can go through a bucket of that with that tour, and I could do the same with LIV, right? “Nobody's perfect. No organisation's perfect. But I could tell you that the opportunities at LIV and the ability to grow team golf is so intriguing and so interesting to me that that's where I stake my home and ground there. It’s where I want to be, but ultimately, it's got to make sense for everybody. Because I could just do YouTube golf and be totally fine as well.” He went on develop that answer when asked about whether he thinks a deal to renew his contact could be completed before the first event of the LIV Golf League season in Riyadh, in February: “I don't know about before Riyadh, there's a lot of things to go through.. You know, it's a scenario that is very unique. With Brooks leaving it definitely throws in some unique things. And look, I mean, like I've said all along, I want to do this, I want to grow team golf across the globe. But it has to be right. And there's a lot of things that have to be done in order for it to be right, you know? “Things have got to change. Things have got to improve. And I think Scott's done a fabulous job with the year that he's had. And I think this year's going to be even better, now he's got the right people in place and he can run the organisation, the way he wants to do this here. So it's going to be interesting to see, especially with the new branding coming on. It's going to be interesting to see what happens. “I don't run this thing at all. I don't really have much say to be honest with you. Which is funny, but it is what it is, right? And, you know, I sometimes wish I had more say, but that's life and I don't run the organisation and I trust them to do that. “Ultimately, I just go play golf and try to entertain as best as I possibly can. Because I could just do YouTube golf and be totally fine as well.” He went on develop that answer when asked about whether he thinks a deal to renew his contact could be completed before the first event of the LIV Golf League season in Riyadh, in February: “I don't know about before Riyadh, there's a lot of things to go through.. You know, it's a scenario that is very unique. With Brooks leaving it definitely throws in some unique things. And look, I mean, like I've said all along, I want to do this, I want to grow team golf across the globe. But it has to be right. And there's a lot of things that have to be done in order for it to be right, you know? “Things have got to change. Things have got to improve. And I think Scott's done a fabulous job with the year that he's had. And I think this year's going to be even better, now he's got the right people in place and he can run the organisation, the way he wants to do this here.
