More information- Bryson DeChambeau opted to take home some Pinehurst No. 2 memorabilia following his U.S. Open victory on Sunday, pouring sand from the 18th bunker into his trophy during his celebrations. DeChambeau clinched the second major championship of his career in North Carolina, pipping Rory McIlroy following an epic final round. The American headed into the final 18 holes the event with a three-shot lead over the chasing pack, but had plenty of work to do after slipping two behind McIlroy with five holes to play. The Northern Irishman's advantage however was soon squandered, as he settled for three bogeys over his last five holes, which included two brutally-missed putts from short range on the 16th and 18th. McIlroy's bogey on the 72nd hole of the tournament ensured DeChambeau in the group behind required just a par to become champion. Things however got off to a sticky start on the tee box, as the LIV Golf star pulled his tee shot left into the brutal Pinehurst native area. With his back swing blocked out by an over-hanging tree, DeChambeau punched his second shot into a bunker, leaving the American a tricky up-and-down from 55-yards to win the event outright. The Crushers captain went on to play one of the all-time U.S. Open shots from the sand though, hitting a superb wedge into close range. He then rolled in the putt, clinching him his second U.S. Open title in four years. Having been handed the iconic trophy, DeChambeau celebrated in style down the 18th hole, parading his prize through the North Carolina crowds, before returning to the scene of his third shot in the bunker. And to take home some of his iconic effort with him, DeChambeau was later seen adding sand from the bunker into his U.S. Open trophy. A clip on social media then showed the two-time champion decanting the sand into a cup, before he made his exit. no backswing. At a certain point in time, I'm just like, okay, I have to hack it; hopefully it will go down the line, but it didn't. It cut and it went into the bunker, one of the worst places I could have been. But G-Bo [his caddie] just said, Bryson, just get it up-and-down. "That's all you've got to do. You've done this plenty of times before. I've seen some crazy shots from you from 50 yards out of a bunker. I said, you're right; I need a 55-degree, let's do it."
