X-Humanoid just officially dropped Embodied Tien Kung 3.0, A universal platform designed to be way more open and developer-friendly. 🤖 Built on their Wise Kaiwu AI platform, this next-gen humanoid is all about slashing development costs. It’s a fully interoperable ecosystem that supports everything from tactile interaction to high-dynamic motion control at a full humanoid scale. ➤ Radical Openness: X-Humanoid is open-sourcing the full stack—robot body, motion control, VLM/VLA models, and the RoboMIND dataset. It fully supports ROS2, MQTT, and TCP/IP, so developers can customize use cases without re-engineering the basics. ➤ High-Performance Hardware: With high-torque integrated joints, Tien Kung 3.0 can clear 1-meter (3.3ft) obstacles and handle dexterous moves like kneeling and bending. It hits millimeter-level precision, making it a solid fit for industrial-grade tasks. ➤ True Autonomy: The bot runs a continuous perception-decision-execution loop. It uses world models to break down complex language commands and VLA models for real-time obstacle avoidance and navigation. ➤ Scalable Collaboration: The platform moves beyond single-unit tasks to support multi-robot collaboration with autonomous scheduling. It’s built to move embodied AI from the lab straight into real-world commercial and industrial environments. New framework: Kick down your robot, it will get back up every time 🥋 Chinese startup RoboParty is a Beijing startup founded April 2025 by Huang Yi, originally shipping ROBOTO ORIGIN, the world's first full-stack open-source bipedal humanoid. They released UFO: Unsupervised Reinforcement Learning Framework for Humanoid Control. DEFINITIONS -> what differs is where the learning signal comes from: - SUPERVISED: humans supply the right answers (labels), the model imitates them. - UNSUPERVISED: no answer key, the model finds structure in raw data on its own. - REINFORCEMENT LEARNING: no answer key either, the model tries things and a reward scores each attempt. → UNSUPERVISED RL: trial and error where the agent invents its own rewards, instead of engineers hand-writing one per task. REPRESENTATION LEARNING: compress raw states into a useful internal map. TEMPORAL DISTANCE: distance on that map is "how many steps from A to B." CONTRASTIVE: trained by pulling together what's close in time, pushing apart what isn't. -> CONTRASTIVE TEMPORAL-DISTANCE REPRESENTATION LEARNING: the model builds an internal map of body states where distance means how many steps it takes to get from one to another. It is trained by contrast: states that occur close together in a movement get pulled together in the map, randomly paired states get pushed apart. UFO is an open-source training framework that teaches humanoid robots skills, like getting up, walking, goal-reaching, teleoperation, without reference motions -> no motion-capture or human-video demonstrations to imitate. Its core is TeCH, a contrastive temporal-distance representation-learning algorithm: the robot explores, builds pseudo-goals by temporal rolling, and learns goal-conditioned policies from a single unified progress reward. One framework trains five different robots (Unitree G1/H1, RoboParty RP0/RP1, AgiBot X2) with automatic config conversion in ~2–3 hours per robot! The real novelty here "no demonstrations at all". No data-collection arms race, the dominant humanoid-locomotion recipe is tracking: imitate mocap/retargeted-human reference trajectories. The robot self-generates goals from its own exploration and learns from a progress reward, needing zero reference motion data. Everybody else is fighting over data acquisition, while this team just teleports out of the race entirely (inb4 "competition is for losers 💀 ). This strategy reminds me of the DeepSeek playbook applied to robots: open-source the whole stack to become the global default and commoditize everyone else. RoboParty is giving away hardware and now control software (UFO) to be the Android of humanoids. Yet another reason for the US to ban Chinese open models perhaps 🥶 ? What I also really like about this approach is the cross-embodiment infrastructure, one framework trains Unitree G1/H1, RoboParty RP0/RP1, and AgiBot X2 with automatic configuration conversion. Just like Physical Intelligence, RoboParty seems to place itself as a neutral hardware agnostic middle man. Also woth mentioning: their ability ot perform stable skill injection, e.g. adding a cartwheel without forgetting how to walk. A common failure of RL humanoid policies is that teaching a new agile skill destabilizes the existing ones (catastrophic forgetting). UFO claims you can inject rare motions (cartwheel) without collapsing learned behavior. If it holds, that's a significant incremental/continual skill-learning! But again, I have to underline it: no arXiv, no external validation, no success-rate numbers. -> robotics badely needs an independent unbiased evaluator imho. Still, look at that cool demo: robot is getting kicked and pushed around (serious disturbance) during teleoperation (controlled the person at the back wearing the VR headset), and still managed to always get back up. This is some serious demonstration of stability and robustness!

Another win for open-source robotics! 🔥 Hugging Face just released a fully open-source humanoid robot, and you can build one for $2,500. I'm a huge advocate of open-source in robotics space. Why? Robotics is too hard to solve alone. So lowering the entry point is crucial. Also, ROS proved open ecosystems create lasting industry standards. So let's have a look at the new member of humanoids family! LeRobot Humanoid is a 3D-printed, bipedal humanoid platform designed for real robot learning experiments. It's a complete and, buildable robot Anddddd yes, it's a full stack release: → Hardware files, bill of materials and full assembly documentation → Simulation assets and training environments → Runtime tools for calibration and real-world control → Sim-to-real identification pipeline When a part breaks, reprint it. When a design choice doesn't work, modify it and test again. The whole point is fast iteration on real hardware, not treating the robot as a fixed artefact. The timing is not a coincidence. As foundation models for robotics mature, the field desperately needs open physical platforms to train, validate and deploy them on. clem 🤗 LET'S GO!!! Open-source robot arm meets hand tracking [📍GitHub below] It is designed with an industrial mindset but built as a 3D-printed desktop system. PAROL6 paired with a LEAP Motion controller is a nice example of how accessible robot teleoperation has become. • Hand motion is streamed to the robot at 100 Hz via UDP • A pneumatic gripper is controlled by simple fist open and close gestures • The entire robot stack is open source, from mechanics to control software Combine that with low-latency hand tracking and you get a very practical platform for learning manipulation, teleoperation, and human-robot interfaces. This kind of setup is great for experimentation, teleop, data collection, and teaching robots by demonstration All without proprietary hardware or locked software. People often ask how did the Unitree robots get so good all of a sudden. It wasn't all of a sudden, and it's because they ship their hardware and open source their SDKs. Arguably these robots are nearly useless out of the box, but you have full dev control of them. Because of that, the hardware has become a very popular R&D platform with an ecosystem around it and the Unitree G1 is undoubtedly an order of magnitude better than it could ever be at this point if Unitree was instead just doing quiet internal dev of both the hardware and software. Too many hardware companies for really cool products that seek to be community-driven (robots, AR glasses...etc) desire to make a profitable walled garden and their greed just ends up walling out developers and their product gets outpaced by the G1s of the world.

Awesome Robotics! 💾 Building your own robot just got a lot easier. MathWorks have released an open-source GitHub repository packed with robotics resources for anyone interested in getting hands-on. The repo includes examples for robot arms, ground vehicles, and drones, with projects that show how to connect with ROS and ROS2 or even deploy Simulink models directly as ROS nodes. There are also more advanced demos, like modeling off-road environments and testing navigation algorithms in photorealistic simulations. Everything is well-documented, with tutorials and links that make it easy to go from concept to prototype. 📑 Whether you’re a student, researcher, or just curious, there’s material here for every level. And since it’s an open community project, you can not only explore but also share your own contributions. For anyone looking to learn robotics by doing, this is a solid place to start! Humanoid robots are cool. But most of them aren’t ready for real-world work. X-Humanoid just launched Embodied Tien Kung 3.0 - a full-size humanoid robot built to actually operate in industrial and commercial environments. What makes it different? • Strong, high-torque joints for heavy tasks • Can move dynamically and stay stable • Handles complex motions (even over obstacles) • Millimeter-level precision for detailed work It runs on the Wise KaiWu AI platform, which allows the robot to see, think, and act in a continuous loop with less human control and support for multi-robot collaboration. It also supports ROS2, MQTT, and TCP/IP, and offers more open hardware + software interfaces to make development easier for teams. The goal is simple: make humanoid robots practical, easier to build on, and ready for real-world use. Visit: Check out the official launch video below to see what it can do! 👇 #Robotics #HumanoidRobot #AI

Today we're announcing Base Labs, a dedicated research organization focused on advancing open-source AI. We believe in a healthy, open frontier model ecosystem. To enable this, we are working on: - Blue-sky research on continual learning, the science of RL, and how models learn across their full lifecycle, with every experiment and recipe shared openly. - The BaseHub Data Foundry: the highest-quality open RL environments, training data, and real-world benchmarks, built for anyone to train and benchmark on. - Post-post training: taking open-source models and making them better, safer, and more aligned through continual post-training, built on our research, and deployed with our frontier safety stack so organizations can use open-source models with confidence. - Making models cheaper and more performant through our model performance research. This is a mission-driven research effort, not a commercial product. We believe the health of the open-source AI ecosystem matters and that the best way to advance it is to do science in the open. We’re hiring engineers, researchers, and research fellows to advance this mission.

I DON’T THINK PEOPLE REALIZE HOW MASSIVE THIS IS YET Hugging Face and Pollen Robotics just released Microduck. It is a new legged robot for $399. It passed $1 million in sales in under SEVEN hours 🤯 The hardware packs 15 actuators, a camera, and LiDAR into a 25 cm frame. It weighs under 800 grams and runs for about an hour on a single charge. Out of the box, it can > walk > roller-skate > pick up objects > recover from falls .. and so much more! You can drive the 7 shipped policies from the first boot using a gamepad. But the real hook is the training stack. The software is entirely open: → MuJoCo simulation and PPO training → 50 Hz onboard policy loop → Browser simulator included alongside hardware → Full control stack available on GitHub The mechanical and electronic design files are still proprietary. But don’t let the cute robotic duck fool you. Under the closed chassis is a FULLY OPEN-SOURCE, hackable brain you can experiment with and build on. Repo in 🧵↓

NVIDIA MotionBricks brings humanoid robots closer to natural, fluid movement The system combines a modular latent generative model with Smart Primitives, packing more than 350,000 motion skills into a single backbone. It runs in real time at up to 15,000 FPS with just 2ms latency. Navigation, object interaction, sitting, jumping, obstacle crossing, and even different movement styles can be composed zero-shot, like reusable motion modules. It is already being used for whole-body control on the Unitree G1 and serves as the motion layer for NVIDIA GR00T Whole-Body Control. What makes this interesting is the move from training individual behaviors toward building a shared library of motion capabilities. If that approach scales, robot movement could become more modular, transferable, and easier to deploy across different tasks and environments.

Is it really worth it joining a robotics hackathon? One year ago, thousands of people around the world spent a single weekend building AI robots using the open-source LeRobot stack. Many had never built a robot before. We sat down with the winners to ask what they made and where they are now. For many of them, that weekend changed everything, turning the intimidating field of AI robotics into an accessible hobby or even a full-time career. Here are a few key takeaways from their year-long journey: - You don't need a PhD to start. For many participants, this was their very first robot - One weekend can launch a career. Winning secured internships and full-time jobs - Community lowers the barrier to entry - Learning by doing is exponentially faster. Robotics still requires getting your hands dirty to truly progress Watch the full video to see their projects and hear their advice for taking the first step. clem 🤗, Thomas Wolf

Today we are excited to open up Neuracore to the academic community! Neuracore is a new data foundation built to accelerate robot learning by removing one of the field’s biggest bottlenecks: capturing and working with high-fidelity multimodal robotics data. For the first time, researchers can store, view, and work with robotics data in a cloud-native system built specifically for large-scale learning, and we are making this core platform completely free for academia. The platform lets teams capture every sensor at its native rate, store and visualize data without loss, and then train and deploy models locally using our open-source code (Link in the comments). We are rolling out access to select academic institutions first. Anyone with an academic email can sign up, and if your institution is not part of the initial rollout, you will be able to join the waitlist directly. Beyond providing this infrastructure, we see an opportunity to build a global community where engineers and researchers can share, collaborate, and advance the frontier of robot learning together. Supported by our recent $3M pre-seed round led by Earlybird VC, we are excited to take this mission even further. Our long-term goal is for Neuracore to become the natural home for cutting-edge robot learning algorithms and real-world robotics experimentation, helping accelerate the next wave of Physical AI.

Humanoids are finally getting a sense of touch that actually feels... human. 🤖 As third-gen bots like Optimus, XPENG, and Figure move from labs to the real world, the focus is shifting from just "walking" to "feeling." We are seeing a move toward tactile fabrics that can be literally tailored to a robot's frame like a custom suit. This isn't just about simple pressure sensors; it's about a full electronic skin with a folding radius under 0.2mm. That means a bot can detect a gram-level touch, sense textures, or even feel the slight slip of an object before it drops. The industrial impact is massive—the global market for these flexible sensors is projected to hit 27.4 billion RMB (approx. $3.98B) by 2030. Beyond just picking up boxes, this tech allows robots to sense the warmth and pressure of a hug or adjust balance through foot sensors. High-density arrays with dozens of sensors per square centimeter are becoming the new baseline for dexterity. By turning physical contact into high-fidelity data, these skins are the final key to making robots safe for our homes and hospitals. The future of robotics is looking a lot more flexible and a lot more sensitive.

We are seeing a move toward tactile fabrics that can be literally tailored to a robot's frame like a custom suit.

TienKung Ultra finished the full 21.0975 km in 1:15:00 — fully autonomous, zero human intervention. 🤖 No repeat win this time. But it was easily one of the most striking robots on the course — clean gait, stable motion, and the most human-like running form out there. It took home the “Best Design” award, and that actually says more than the podium this time. Because this isn’t a marathon-only build. TienKung Ultra is a general-purpose humanoid, already moving toward real-world deployment. And it didn’t show up alone. Teams from Peking University, Fudan, HUST, BIT, Beihang, HKUST(GZ), TUM and more were all building on the same TienKung platform. That’s what an open ecosystem looks like — shared hardware, shared stack, different solutions on top. And just a day before, it took the Robot Warrior Challenge — fully autonomous through obstacle tasks modeled on real-world rescue and hazardous operations. That’s the part that matters. This is no longer just about speed. It’s about autonomy — and whether these systems can actually handle real environments. That’s what future winners are going to look like.

AMD's Anush Elangovan explains why he thinks his company's open source ethos combined with agentic AI superpowers their leverage as a company: Because AMD publishes a lot of technical details about its hardware, when engineers use AI tools, the models already “understand” AMD’s systems and can help write code for them, debug them, or even generate new tools. And that makes developers more productive on AMD hardware without AMD having to do all the work internally. "AMD has had this ethos of open source, which really plays to our advantage. Every frontier model that I use has already seen every bit of AMD source code." "It'll rewrite my spec for me because it's already in the training data. Which you can't get from closed ecosystems." "In fact I built a virtual GPU simulator just based off our public specs, and now I'm running it on the GPU. So now I can run cross-generational GPU simulations on existing hardware." "We have that advantage. And we've run a Dev Day contest where we generated more tokens on AMD — Triton kernels and HIP kernels — than existed on the internet at the time." "So now that's all part of the pre-training data. It's a superpower because now you're open source, and you're agentically accelerating this process."
