Generation Alpha living up to their name. Maybe I’m too optimistic but I think my generation (millennials) understand the dangers of bad media & too much unrestricted internet way better than our predecessors Anecdotally the number of parents my age who encourage this type of play seems like it’s increasing daily

Vance: We have a program within Medicaid to ensure these needy kids get the resources they need. It is one of the things by the way I love about the US. We want everyone to work hard, play by the rules, but if we have a needy kid in our community, we are not going to let that person fall down on their own. All Americans are going to lift that kid up together. That is the amazing thing about our country

I see this all the time when I am out and about in the winter, the patent is bundled up and the kid isn’t. Sometimes it’s even as bad as the kid is wearing just a t-shirt. If my kid didn’t have a jacket and I was low on funds I would go without before my kid didn’t have a jacket. Worst comes to worst if I had to get one from a thrift store I would do that too, anything for my kid not to go cold like that. This woman was criticized because she refused to spend $35 for a coat for her kid in the winter. She thinks it’s too expensive. Last winter my kid came home from school in a jacket I didn’t buy him. He already has a few really nice and warm jackets that he picked out at the Polo store. But I guess the school had a program that gave new coats to every child. Was I wrong for this? I made him return it because he didn’t need it. I feel like the coat they gave him could have went to a child that actually needed it. He was fine with it because it wasn’t a brand he normally wears anyways. But I think the school should have been more selective about who they gave these coats too. There are kids out there that go without and could benefit, but my kid isn’t one of them. Am I a jerk for that? I feel like he wasn’t going to wear it anyways and I see other kids at his school that didn’t have coats.

In the U.S., 11% of kids from families in the bottom income quintile obtain bachelor’s degrees, compared with only 3% of children who have been in foster care. In other words, a poor kid in the U.S. is nearly 4 times more likely to graduate from college than a foster kid. From my talk at University of Austin (UATX)
